“Sow a thought and you reap an action; sow an act and you reap a habit; sow a habit and you reap a character; sow a character and you reap a destiny.”

🧠How much of your thoughts are positive or negative? 🌻What kind of seeds are you planting in your mind?

🌀Our negative thoughts can spiral out of control with the more attention we pay them. Thinking “I’m not good enough” might prevent you from going for job opportunities or ending unhealthy relationships. If we can practice observing our thoughts with detachment then these thoughts lose their power.

Consider how positive thinking is equally powerful. Thinking “I am good enough” can lead to actions like saying no to things that do not bring you joy or prioritising your health.

The power of positive thinking is supported by neuroscience and neuroplasticity proves that you can change the wiring of your brain through mindfulness and meditation.

What can you change about the way you think?

Maybe it’s a small shift, just noticing when the mind is liking a barking dog or a monkey up to no good and bring it back to the present moment, using your breath as an anchor.

I recently heard this said, “get out of your head and into your heart”. When your mind is turbulent start listing the things you love and are grateful for. Like any practice, physical exercise or mindfulness, it takes constant work.

Why not try these mantras? ⬇️
🧠”Every single thought, action and choice I make determines who I am becoming and the quality of my life.”

👣”When I learn to control my thoughts, I can control my mind, and when I can control my mind, I can master my life and when I master my life I can master my destiny.“

🌍”My inner world is a reflection of my outer world. Once I change my inner world my outer world changes too.”

This links to the first Yama called Saucha which refers to purity and cleanliness of the mind and body.

Do your emotions swing back and forth like a pendulum? How much time do you spend in the high, low or middle?

We visualised a pendulum in yesterday’s class and mimicked its flow from high to low, back and forth. I heard @geradkite use this analogy on an episode of the Happy Place with @fearnecotton. This was one of my favourites that I’ve listened to a few times now. Link at the end👇

He says that it is normal for emotions or thoughts to naturally swing from highs to lows. I think this is important to remember as we can often beat ourselves up for having the feelings of “low” and not enough of the “high”. If we observe these swings rather than being attached or grasping onto them we can develop a habit of observing without judgement or resistance. This is an important principle in Buddhist philosophy that attachment is the cause of suffering. If we stay as the observer we can see ourselves as separate from our thoughts. Rather than saying “I am sad” try saying “there is sadness”. Also knowing that these emotions are a natural part of our human experience makes them feel more normal and less personal.

Notice where the pendulum settles in the middle after it’s swings, this is your natural state of harmony and equilibrium. Gerad Kite says if you attach to the high you create a longer period of tension in the high and then in the low (like chasing success or excitement junkies). If we keep pushing ourselves into the high we naturally have to come back to the low. He promotes a peaceful middle, giving greater value to calm and balance. Although this doesn’t mean avoiding the highs, but knowing how to return back to your middle.

What can or do you do to bring yourself back to this state or calm and balance to feel centred and grounded? Let me know in the comments, I love finding new practices! 👇

Below are some suggestions too👇
🧘🏻‍♀️Yoga, Mindfulness activities like mindful eating showering or colouring, Journalling, Reading, Meditating, Candle gazing, Sound baths / music, being in nature, deep breaths / pranayama

🧘🏻‍♀️Why practice yoga?
The word yoga comes from the Sanskrit word 'yuj' which means to unite and connect. Yoga is much deeper than the physical practice of asanas (postures), it’s time to connect with mind, body and spirit, which we don't often find in our fast-paced, busy lives.

Yoga can be transformational, it can improve our physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. There are so many benefits to yoga; it stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system (your rest-digest state) that has a calming effect on the body and mind, can help relieve stress and anxiety, helps improve flexibility, strength, and balance, and prepares the body for sitting in meditation (the 7th limb of ashtanga yoga, leading to the final limb samadhi - enlightenment or bliss).

“Move the body, heal the mind”
“Show up for yourself, so you can better show up for others.”

I hope to practice with you soon!

Katie 🧘🏻‍♀️

Have you ever asked this question:

Who am I as a person?

Keep reading to get philosophical👇

Did you describe yourself in labels? As a mother, a friend, an adult, loving…?

Now go a little deeper: Am I my body? Am I my thoughts? Am I my feelings? Am I my experiences?

Ramana Maharshi, a great yogic teacher and Hindu sage, used to say that to attain inner freedom you must continuously and sincerely ask the question “Who am I?” Who sees when I see? Who hears when I hear? Who knows that I am aware? Who am I?”

Michael Singer’s incredible book ‘The Untethered soul’ prompts you to contemplate, “Who is having all these physical, emotional, and mental experiences? Notice who is experiencing the experience. Realize that you, the experiencer, have a certain quality. And that quality is awareness, consciousness, an intuitive sense of existence. You exist regardless, thoughts or no thoughts.”

Eknath Easwaran’s commentary on Indian Spirituality also says “You are behind everything, just watching. Take everything else away and you’re still there, aware that everything is gone. But take the center of awareness away, and there is nothing. That center is the seat of Self. From that seat, you are aware that there are thoughts, emotions, and a world coming in through your senses. But now you are aware that you’re aware. That is the seat of the Buddhist Self, the Hindu Atman, and the Judeo-Christian Soul.”

Rhonda Byrne says in the ‘Greatest Secret’
“You are not a body, a mind, or a bundle of thoughts, feelings, memories, or sensations. You are the one who is aware of your body, your mind, your thoughts, feelings, memories, and sensations. You are Awareness itself.”

These are the self-realisations that the practice of Yoga can lead to.

I’d love to hear what you think? Have you ever thought about it before?

Thank you for a beautiful full moon practice yesterday. 🌝

Try this meditation practice to tune in to what the full moon might be telling you: ⬇️
Begin lying in savasana or a seated position allowing the body and mind to be still. @gelongthubten recommends you set an intention to give your meditation a direction. To be more kind and compassionate to myself and others? This trains your motorcortex to become stronger which motivates you to take action.

Scan the body becoming aware of any sensations without judgement. During a full moon you might feel heightened emotions. @kirsty_gallagher_ says that “The emotions that arise under this full moon are a great indicator of the life areas you need to work on and what holds you back…It is here to help you let go of everything that is in vour way.”

Bring awareness to your body without judgement. Concentrate on the sensations of the belly rising, rib cage expanding and chest rising as you inhale deeply and fully. Allow everything to soften on the exhale. If the mind wanders bring it back to the breath. This is a positive thing as it is training the mind.

Ask yourself what do I want in life? Use the full moon’s energy to visualise and manifest. @drtaraswart says you can “Use the power of your thinking to create the real world outcomes that you want.” Her amazing book ‘The Source’ uses science to prove that visualisations can create real world outcomes. By visualising exactly what you want in life it primes the brain to notice when opportunities might arise through selective filtering and value tagging. This is the science of manifestation! You could also use a mantra that aligns with your desires and releases any blocks. Think what stories do I tell myself over and over? How can I rewrite them? “I am strong and in control. Good things happen to me. I am safe and loved. I am worthy of happiness and success”. Make it personal to you!

End your meditation by bringing awareness to your body and dedicating your practice to the good of yourself and others. Close with a mantra of your choice.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Peace be in your mind, body and spirit 💜

🌳🌿 I LOVE to practice outside to connect with nature! Where is your favourite place to practice?

Recently I’ve been practicing moving more intuitively and I love this sequence with gentle swaying, shaking and fluid movements. These motions can shift stagnant energy and allow the body to release any tension or emotional blocks.

Try this gentle swaying⬇️
Begin standing with your arms heavy by your side. Gently swing your arms from left to right as you twist from the waist. Visualise negative energy dripping from your fingertips. Add more movement by shifting the weight into the left foot, stepping the right foot out wide, bend into the right knee as you swing your arms across the body. Allow the momentum of the swing to carry your weight back over to the left side. Recite this affirmation or one of your own:

‘I give myself permission to forgive and let go.'
‘I release myself and others from the story.'

Repeat a few times to shift energy around the body. Come to a natural stop.

Also try this ⬇️

Begin standing or seated. Inhale to raise your arms up to the sky while shaking your wrists and flicking your fingers. Exhale to repeat lowering your arms back down. Visualise flicking water and shaking off negative energy. Play with fast and slow motions.

And the ‘Shake it off!’ ⬇️
Stand in a relaxed posture. Close your eyes. Shake the whole body from head to toes and add with any intuitive movements that feel good. You can make this as big or small as you like. Listen to your body and what it needs.

Why shake? Animals instinctively shake after being attacked or chased to get rid of the effects on the body. When we don’t process stressful events in our day to day lives these get stuck in our body and can cause tension and illness over time.

Now take a moment to check in physically and emotionally. Notice how you feel. Has your energy shifted? Your mood altered?
