Now that we know that Slot will not be at Liverpool next season, it is time to recognise what he has done for this club. He took over from Klopp, one of the most beloved managers ever at Anfield, and won the Premier League the first time of asking. He didn't try to outshine our previous gaffer, but went about his business with dignity and respect. The last year has been full of ups and downs, many of which were outside of Slot's control, but we should remember him as the man who gave Liverpool fans something to celebrate.

Slot ➡️ Iraola?

It's official, Slot will not be manager of Liverpool FC next season. The decision was announced earlier today, and it is expected that Iraola will take over as manager. I don't think anyone expected this to happen after months of hearing that the club hierarchy still backed Arne.

You Reds loved the Bundesliga signings team, so here is a starting eleven made up entirely of players that we signed from the top flight of English football. There are some blockbuster transfers in this team, like Mane and Van Dijk, but also some really smart purchases like Sturridge, Milner, Wijnaldum and Henderson. Let's see if this lineup changes by the end of this transfer window!

Van Dijk loses another centre back partner 💔

With the news that Konate is set to leave Liverpool as a free agent this summer, Van Dijk will have to say goodbye to the centre back that he has played with the most at Anfield. The skipper has clocked up the most minutes alongside Konate, followed by Gomez and Matip. Whether the Frenchman will be replaced by Jacquet, Leoni or a different centre back altogether remains to be seen, but it means more upheaval at the back.

If there is one position that represented the transition of this Liverpool team, it is the left hand side of defence. Club legend Robertson and new signing Kerkez battled it out to claim the left back spot, with each player experiencing sustained spells in the team. Robertson may no longer be the swashbuckling full back that terrified defences in the Premier League, but he still came up with crucial moments against Wolves and Everton. Kerkez struggled to adjust to life at Anfield, but settled in after a few months, and proved to be one of the only players willing to put up a fight this season.

When Trent Alexander-Arnold left Anfield last year, it left a gaping hole on the right hand side of the Liverpool defence. The club's solution to this dilemma was to rotate Bradley and new signing Frimpong, which brought mixed results. Bradley was consistent, but he struggled to stay fit, and suffered a horror injury in January. Frimpong has also had a season of ups and downs, showing flashes of attacking quality but having injury problems of his own.

The end of an era 💔

It was always a matter of time, but we are truly witnessing a complete transformation in this Liverpool team. Of the legendary Klopp team that conquered the Premier League and the Champions League, only Alisson and Van Dijk remain. Gomez and Jones are also at the club, but they could depart this summer. In the past few seasons we have said goodbye to the likes of Firmino, Mane, Henderson, Milner and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Last weekend, we had to add Salah and Robertson to that list. The times are changing...

Next up in the MG Team of the Season are our central defenders. Van Dijk made history by becoming the oldest player to play every single minute in the Premier League, and he delivered plenty of heroics in the Champions League too. Konate had a shaky start to the season, but recovered form at the turn of the year, overcoming personal grief to return to his levels from last season. Gomez has taken over Milner's role, filling in at both centre back and right back. As solid as Joe is, there is no escaping his constant injury woes.

It's been a tough year between the sticks, with midfield instability and defensive mistakes making life very hard for our keepers. Alisson has played the majority of our games, but injury problems have meant that Mamardashvili has had to step up many times during his first season at Liverpool.
