This is such a good post - thank you
I was caught in this cycle of flip flopping in and out of sport to rehab and back again. My nervous system was so jacked up, I could repair or recover effectively.
I thought I had to do my rehab and healing like I did my sport - harder, faster, stronger!!! đđ
Nervous system first! Then the next system and then the nextâŚ.
⢠No system in the body ever works alone. Never gets injured alone. Never heals alone. There is no such thing as an isolated injury. There is no such thing as isolated healing. Itâs alone nothing until lights out.
The number one goal of your body is survival. Because itâs hard to heal if youâre dead.
Maladapted nervous systems flick on the survival switch quick and keep it there. Anything can set it off. Including your language and thoughts.
itâs critical to remember that all therapeutic interventions are also stressors to the nervous system. The longer you have been under chronic stress, the less stress you can tolerate. You overwhelm the system
More isnât better, better is better.
Just because I can do a ton of stuff to you doesnât mean that I should. You donât need a sledgehammer to drive a nail. You just need a hammer. đ
â
Go too hard, too fast, too soon and your systems flip on the âmuscle guarding reflexâ and tissues get tight decreasing space for fluids to move. Thatâs not gonna work out well for you in healing and recovery.
â
PssstâŚhereâs a tip.
Calming the body helps ease tension which moves body fluids. And youâre not healing if you donât move body fluids.
But, moving body fluids also eases tension and calms the nervous system. It goes both ways.

Itâs a good listen if you wanna get your neuronâs firing đ¤đ¤
If you wanna hear about the link between physical and emotional pain. AND how we can influence one or the other by altering our perception CAN change one or the other.
Yes, how we relate to our pain and emotions has a huge impact of/on the physical, felt, phenomenon of pain - in the brain and body!
What do you notice about yourself in times of stress or pain? How are you? I would love to know đ

Tension!!!!
If you answered âyesâ to any of these - keep reading.
When it comes to stress tension or emotional tension: itâs a completely different type of tension than the mechanical tension we experience from workouts or doing weights in the gym.
I order to make a muscle contract the process will be similar, physiologically speaking. BUT the way and the reason why your muscles contract is very different.
For example: when you get a fright or get scared, the body responds differently compared to a gym workout of heavy shoulder raises. NOW, If you got scared and felt really threatened, your nervous system logs this as a BIG threat/problem, as opposed to grunting and screaming in the gym - not so threatening.
Hence why, when working mechanically with regular massage or external tools, the results are short lived.
We need other ways to work with the stress and emotional tension of our being. Hot tip: take it slow for a moment, notice where tension lives and tense some more. Then release. Tense again. Release. Pause and rest.
We explore this concept and build your own tools in the âMind-Body Pain & Stress Protocolâ - A 4 month program that will change your life.

Classes are starting up in February 2024!! @5-7pm
Come move, breathe and explore your body for 2 hours. These classes are designed to create a different experience in the body and not have your focus on skills and tricks. We move from the internal felt sense of the body not the mechanical way, like exercise or performing.
Youâll get to reduce stress and pain, improve mobility and begin to really start to move freely!
If you wanna move and feel at ease in your body, this is the class for you.

This may seem confusing but I was totally disconnected from my body. We may see an athlete moving so elegantly, with such power and ease. This may look like they are so connected to their body. The intention and focus might not be: The intention might be to move fast, getting the load from A to B and maybe controlling an external apparatus.
That intention took my focus away from how my body felt, I was more concerned about the guy next to me, how much faster I could get or worry constantly about losing. I would even stick to the training plan that was on paper, even when I was so tired, I woke up sore everyday and just thought I could push through. I was in pain and under so much stress, which I ignored and hoped it would evaporate somehow. But my body started to scream, louder and louder - I was being called back to my body.
All my focus was external, not on the internal felt experience of my body! This can cause âstressâ
Donât get me wrong, itâs incredible what we can do but I woke up one day and the ânoiseâ coming from my body was too loud. I could not ignore it anymore. I had been pushing too hard for too long. I didnât know when to stop, take a break or know I was tired. Sometimes after a performance, my memory of the event was fragmented and not clear, itâs like I was partly there.
In short, our intentions are powerful, a disconnection from the felt sense of the body can create stress and eventually pain. I have seen many times, not only in the athlete population, that a tension can live in our body for years, if we become dis-embodied.
We can reconnect.
We can become embodied again.
We can live fully - without pain and tools to buffer the stress.

There is nothing wrong with you.
We may feel like something is wrong but I believe you are ok. This narrative may live inside us and we may want to fight ourselves, speaking to ourselves like an object.
When we get injured, we speak to our body as parts and like they have let us down. We get a diagnosis and we become it, like itâs a part of our identity. Changing our relationship to ourselves and the people around us. I know you may feel you are in a tight spot but you are ok, because youâve read this or you are sharing how you are with someone you trust.
I see you from this place, you are already ok. I will partner with you to answer the question âwhat is wrong for you?â rather than âwhat is wrong with you?â. You are not parts of a machine that need fixing rather a whole that needs to heard. I believe you and your body are intelligent, wanting to help each other out. When I look at you, I see all the potential and possibility waiting to be brought forward. This is all in you.

What conditions are you trying to thrive under?
It is really about the optimal amount of stress we need in order to thrive. All stress is not BAD, too little can also be a problem. But more on that laterâŚ
Looking at these little fungi đ the conditions are just right for them to sprout. It took some work to pop up like they did and to now keep themselves here. If we look at the story of the little mushroom as of it was a metaphor for turning stress into GROWTH.
What do you need to transform your stress into growth? Drawing in the nutrients of the soil, having nutrients in the soil, absorbing enough water and moisture, finding the light, knowing when to push and when to be. Itâs a complex interaction and relationship with many parts, internally and externally, getting the recipe âjust rightâ.
Stress can help us grow, if the conditions are right and we have the resources to do so. I am happy to help you build your resources and get in flow with the environment.

Here is something that could be the answer to your chronic tension in your body đ¨
This client had been feeling this most mornings when they woke up, after a gradual chronic tension build up in the hip over the years. It then spread to the whole body! Stretching, yoga, massage, osteo 2/3 a month. đ
Itâs now a concern of the nervous system as it has spread all over and affecting the whole body - left the tension build up for too long. She felt great for a short while after those modalities and had some relief.
This issue came from an instability in her hip. So with all the opening and releasing it, releasing tight muscles, (that were protecting)the hip became free but very quickly when you âfreeâ something that needs stability, you get more tension because your hip feels âunstableâ. The nervous system will always try and protect you at all costs. So it clamps down for safety! Brining the tension back⌠as soon as we gave her stability movements = the hip felt much more freedom, without the tension.
Ad for the whole body, tin man feeling, we needed to add more safety to her system. Grounding and centring practices to tell her body itâs safe to move, to see tension as supportive not protective. Her whole system loved 𼰠this!! Whole body, whole person philosophy.
Any stubborn tension youâve had for a while? Tried many modalities to help? Not getting the results you want?
You may need a muscle and neurological approach to your concernsđ
DM me âpain reliefâ right now. Iâd love to help you keep movin!!
