CILIP is saddened to hear about the death of Dolly Parton.
Dolly was awarded a CILIP Honorary Fellowship in 2024 in recognition of her enormous and still growing positive impact on children’s reading in the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, and Ireland through her Imagination Library that has gifted millions of books, for free, to millions of pre-school children since she started the scheme in 1995 in honour of her father who could not read and write.
As well as being an inspirational multi-million-selling singer-songwriter, actor, and humanitarian, we remember this positive and life-affirming generosity to ensure that generations will be supported into literacy - a wonderful legacy. Our thoughts are with her family.
