🚫 Stop Coming Over the Top
If you struggle with pulls, slices, or that dreaded over-the-top move, this training station is one of my favourites.
By placing an alignment stick just above the ball line, you can make your normal backswing, but on the way down you’ll instantly get feedback if the club starts travelling too far out towards the ball. Hit the stick, and you know you’ve come over the top.
The goal is to deliver the club from a better path, giving the clubface more chance to square naturally through impact. Remember, the clubface still controls where the ball starts, but improving your swing direction is a huge step towards eliminating those pulls and slices.
Simple setup. Instant feedback. Better golf. ⛳️

One simple alignment stick can transform both your takeaway and your downswing. 👌⛳
If you struggle with taking the club too far to the inside and then coming over the top on the way down, give this drill a try.
Place an alignment stick down your trail side. During the takeaway, it encourages the club to stay more in front of your body instead of whipping behind you. Then, as you complete your backswing, the stick naturally gives you the feeling of the shaft shallowing in transition, helping the club approach the ball from a much better angle.
It’s a simple setup, but it provides instant feedback and can improve two of the most common swing faults with one drill.

Want to strike your irons more consistently? Start by looking at your hands, not the clubhead.
Great iron players return their hands in front of the golf ball before impact, creating shaft lean. That’s one of the biggest keys to compressing the ball and producing a solid strike.
So how do you achieve it?
✅ Sequence your downswing correctly. As you transition from the backswing, pressure should move from your trail side into your lead side. That change of direction helps create the “lag” that keeps the clubhead behind your hands.
✅ Maintain trail wrist extension. Keeping a little extension in your trail wrist allows the clubhead to stay behind your hands for longer. If you scoop or flick at the ball, you’ll lose shaft lean, lose compression, and sacrifice consistency.
A square clubface is still essential, but if your goal is cleaner iron strikes, start with better sequencing and trail wrist control.

One of my favourite bunker drills! 🏌️♂️
Draw a line in the sand around one clubhead behind the ball. Take one practice swing and focus on entering the sand exactly on the line. Then step in and recreate the same strike with the golf ball there.
This simple drill teaches consistent sand contact, which leads to more consistent distance control from bunkers.
Remember, your first priority is always getting the ball out of the bunker. If it finishes safely on the green, that’s a great result 9 times out of 10. Once your strike becomes consistent, controlling distance becomes much easier.

Is the downswing narrower than the backswing? 🤔
Not really it’s down to lateral shift…
So how do you achieve it?
As your lead arm reaches roughly parallel in the backswing, you should already be starting to apply pressure into your trail foot, using it to push your body towards the target. That movement allows your hands to fall into a much better position before rotation really takes over.
If you spin your body too early without shifting into your lead side first, you’ll often struggle to get your hands covering your trail thigh before impact. Instead, the club gets thrown out, the delivery becomes steep, and consistent ball striking becomes much harder.
Get the shift right… and a better delivery position becomes much easier.

💾 this if you slice ↗️
As you swing down, think about the logo on the back of your glove:
🏌️ Pre-impact: the logo starts to face forwards.
🎯 Impact: the logo faces the target.
↩️ Post-impact: the logo continues to rotate until it’s facing behind you.
This encourages your forearms to rotate naturally through the strike, helping the clubface close instead of being left open. An open clubface is the biggest reason golfers slice the ball, so this is a great drill to experiment with on the range.

Steal my pre-shot routine. ⛳️
You don’t need to copy my golf swing… but you can copy my routine.
If you want to play more consistent golf, you need a consistent approach before every shot.
Here’s mine:
✅ 1. Two practice swings
To get a feel for the shot I want to hit.
✅ 2. Visualise success
Stand behind the ball and picture the perfect shot. Not the bunker. Not the water. Not the shank. Just the shot you want to create.
✅ 3. Club first, body second
Aim the clubface at your target first, then build your stance around it. The club controls the start line, so let that lead the process.
Then…
🏌️ Hit the shot.
👍 Accept the result.
🚶 Move on.
😊 Enjoy this great game.
