This is going to be one crazy appreciation post so brace yourself
It has been a hugely successful year for me personally and for my students
I guess I will start with Malmo, Sweden where this year I managed to win the Senior +85kg Men’s Kumite at the WUKF World Championships
My student Aitor, won the 14-15 Cadet heavyweight Kumite
My student Azan, was runner up in the 14-15 Cadet Kumite in the lightweight category
Another student of mine Lwandile, was the runner up in the Cadet 16-17 Ippon Kumite
As well as a whole bunch of team success but this year for me was crazy because I had more of my students representing Karate England in the WUKF World Championships than ever before
Well done to my Vikings Junior League teams who had two amazing seasons this year! And hopefully will see their success getting some sponsorship for next year
I want to say a huge thank you to FEKO for asking me to be their Kumite consultant and allowing me to lead the fighting sessions to reignite their competition squad so big things to come from them this year
Fast forwards a few months to travelling to Edinburgh to help the Sankukai Karate Scotland who are members of FEKO who invited me to help them with their Kumite. And in the time I had with them showed massive growth and improvements so well done to you all who attended
Then came Riga, Latvia for the WUKF European championships. At this event I won the Men’s Senior Open Kumite event as well as the Men’s Senior Team Kumite alongside United Karate Association club mate Jack Gould and Jayden Young our Karate England team mate
My students then continued to shine with more debuting for their first even representing Karate England and others winning and medalling in their respected categories
Aitor champion of the 14-15 Kumite
Rayan third place in the 13yr old light weight Kumite
Azan third place in the 16-17yr old Light weight Kumite
As well as other Team success
Then finally seeing Aitor get his 1st Dan black belt followed by Mohammad achieving his 2nd Dan black belt
This was a truly special moment for me as it’s my First black belt moving onto his 2nd Dan after his years of commitment and support to me and everyone in the club
And to close it off we had another Kyu grade competition in Walthamstow with lots of different clubs in attendance and support from all over which really did mean a lot
Then we finished the year with a Fund Raising event for next years championships run by the UKA Walthamstow Parents Committee (UKAWPC) it was so much fun and a huge success
Well done to two of my students who are successful Oxford University Applicants and fingers crossed get to be a part of that incredible establishment but this just shows martial arts and academics go hand in hand so congratulations Rafael and Luyanda for getting this far I really hope all your dream come true
As always parents none of this would be possible without you continuing to support your children wherever possible. Thank you to the parents committee for your time and contributions to helping the club move forwards to bigger and better things
Thank you to Sensei Ian for constantly supporting me and pushing me and as a result pushing everyone else to go places we never imagined possible
Thank you to all the senior instructors from UKA for coaching, support and their efforts for the students and for each other which is why all of this is able to happen on and off of the mats
Lastly and for me a huge one thank you to my partner Laura, because she is the one keeping me focused. She is the one nursing me and my injuries after events where I have fought my heart out. She is the one providing me with meals and my nutrition when I am doing extra sessions for everyone and she is the one behind the scenes helping to keep everything together so thank you
Just typing this all out is amazing and incredible to think about it all and I cannot wait to see where we can take things next year

Then I had to do this post separate from the last because this young man was my first Black belt and now he is my first 2nd Dan student
Congratulations Mohammad I’m extremely proud of you too

At 6 years old Aitor started the after school Karate club as a silly clumsy loveable mischievous little dude (I know he was little once)
But fast forwards he is the current World and European Champion in the 14-15 Heavyweight category been selected to play for saracens rugby academy and yesterday
He got his 1st Dan Black Belt 🥋 what a journey you have been on so far I am really proud of you and look forward to seeing you take your success to even greater heights
Additionally I want to say another well done to George, Eddie and Nathaniel who also were able to share this journey with Aitor congratulations gentleman

I hope that you all took something away from the session an I look forward to seeing you again soon
A huge thank you to Charlie Collins UKA for enlightening our students and helping them with techniques to develop their kumite. 🥋⭐️
