Nancy Hitzig is a dancer, fundraiser, creative producer, and all-round badass.

In 2019, Nancy and her co-artistic director, Cat Foley, launched a project called 'Swing Sister Swing' - an original swing dance and swing music show celebrating female choreographers, musicians and jazz dance.

In today's episode, Nancy shares her experience of taking an idea and a story to the stage, along with the logistical and creative decision-making involved in this process.

Humans of Old Street: Rachel

I started dancing 3 years ago when I was still living in Edinburgh - I went with some friends to a free taster class and I loved it so much I kept going! I had always wanted to dance something but always thought I just wasn't a dancer.

I'm so glad I was wrong because swing dance and music are so addictive, it's boosted my confidence massively and I've met some of my favourite people through classes and socials. When I got a job with a publisher in London, a swing dance class was one of the first things I looked for.

When I'm not dancing, you'll usually find me reading (can you tell??), my current book being a biography of Eric Brown, test pilot extraordinaire, and current favourites being A Gentleman in Moscow, Rivers of London and The Elegance of the Hedgehog.

Or I might be playing Ultimate Frisbee or singing with the London Gaelic Choir. Or eating. Or telling stupid jokes. It's the little things in life.
