Hadleywood Green are pleased to get our first win of the season against Camel CC. We lost the toss and were sent in to bat first. After a slightly shaky start, we were 3 down for only 60 runs, batsmen 3 and 5 anchored us with a partnership of over 100. Number 5 Salik walloped 95 off just 43 before getting bowled just shy of 100. Number 3 Sha stayed in until the very end, getting caught and bowled on the final ball for 119. There were some helpful contributions from Abdul at 4, Ranjit at 6 and Arun at 7. Total of 339 for 7.
Camels lost 1 in the first over, the bowler Milon beat the batsmen repeatedly. They were in a similar position to us, 3 down with less than 50, but captain Kit and batsmen 2 secured an impressive partnership of over 100 and they were hitting 4s and 6s all over the place. Both got half centuries and they got to 150 at 20 overs still only 3 down. We get our breakthrough when Kit was caught for 66. After that the wickets started falling, and eventually batsmen 2 was caught for 51. Camels all out for 162. Great match!

Match Report: HWG CC vs Hackney CC - 15th Sept 2024

HWG CC faced NECL league leaders Hackney CC at the beautiful Mill Field ground. The pitch made it tough for both teams, leading to a low-scoring but exciting match.

Hackney CC, known as the top team in the league, struggled as HWG CC bowled with great skill and discipline. HWG kept the pressure on throughout the innings, restricting Hackney to a modest total.

In response, HWG’s middle-order batsmen showed determination, building key partnerships under pressure. The game was close until the end, but HWG CC held their nerve and won by 3 wickets.

Despite the fierce competition, both teams played with great sportsmanship, making it an enjoyable game of cricket. HWG CC can take pride in their performance and look forward to a bright future in the NECL.

Match Report: HWG CC vs. Hamel Hempstead CC

On a good batting pitch, HWG CC started well with Daniyal Tahir (42) and Saif Khaled (22) forming a solid opening partnership. However, after their partnership, the scoring slowed down. Asif Sheikh then boosted the innings with a quick 52 runs from 52 balls. Contributions from the middle order, including Abdul Wadud (22), Alom Rana (20), and Kakon Zilani (23), helped HWG CC reach a total of 242 in their 45 overs.

In reply, Mohammed Tarek and Abdullah Mohammed bowled tightly for 29 overs, making it hard for the opponents to score and taken 2 wicket a piece. Asif Seekh, Ranjit Yadav, and Jahed Rana each took two wickets. Abdul Wadud's exceptional fielding and Owais Shah’s outstanding performance behind the stumps further bolstered the team's defense.

With this victory, their second consecutive win, HWG CC now holds third place in the league table.

HWG CC secured their first-ever win in the Chess Valley League in a high-stakes match between two teams fighting to stay in the league. Senior player Nee's writing beautifully captures the intense emotions, brilliant performances, and the profound relief felt by the team.

So a league match 45 overs per side. whcih started half hour late at 130, and finished at 830. Saif won toss and elected to bat at BB. Good decision and opening partnership 52 Dhaniyal and Saif in quick time, 7.2 overs. Then 3rd wicket 80run partnership between Omar 64, in quock time, and Sha a brilliant centurion 101 was aided by Asif 10 Ranjit 36no and Abdul 52 (with a rapid half century) ensured a proper challenging target set at the end of innings. Potten End bowling was oddly captained, they had pace and talent but could not make inroads and didn't rotate. Then after Omar had to leave at half time, for family illness (hope all is well), we took to field with 10men. This would be tough.

Ed bowled admirably but it was Asif who applied some control and chances came off his bowling, 2-44 off 10 overs. Some drops and also some dodgy decisions, big edges and catches not given, even apologised for by Kais umpiring (who plays for us in the Norwich Steele tour). Then considerable delays due to bad behaviour and poor sportsmanship by Potten End. Perhaps some choice words from HWG under duress. They chased hard - Seaton 48 and opener Akhtar made 152, having not walked for 2 edges and a bump ball off the bat as adjudicated by umpire when he was walking off, called back. Fowles was applauded for a fine 50. Ranjit bowled well. Abdul proved to be very effective with a super allround performance. While there was a chance with 10overs left in the game, Rana took 2 wickets to curb any ambition. A creditable chase 312 off 45. Glad we won, we lost 4 balls, and 7 hours match was tiring. Hope the other league matches will be played in the right spirit. ✅️
