Celebrating 40 Years of SAS Martial Arts Academy
SAS is proud to celebrate 40 years of transforming lives.
From humble beginnings—teaching in a garage—SAS has grown into a respected organisation, delivering martial arts, mindfulness, and personal development across London. Over the decades, we have taught in multiple venues, secured local authority funding across nine London boroughs, and delivered programmes in mainstream schools, colleges, and universities.
Our journey continued with government-funded initiatives focused on improving the lives of young people. Through school holiday programmes and after-school clubs, we have consistently used the ethos of martial arts to build confidence, discipline, and resilience. SAS has always been more than a martial arts school—it has been a stepping stone to greater life opportunities.
We have proudly produced and directed exciting charity martial arts shows, raising nearly £100,000 for a range of causes, with a special focus on Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). These events have not only supported vital charities but have also empowered participants and strengthened our community.
Our work has been recognised in many ways, with a standout honour being awarded the Freedom of the City of London in 2011, followed by recognition from the Guild of Freemen in 2012.
Beyond achievements and accolades, the true success of SAS lies in its people. Over the years, many students have met through training—18 of whom went on to marry and build successful lives together. Today, they are spread across the world, yet remain connected through the bonds formed at SAS. It has been a privilege for us to witness and be part of these journeys, even attending their weddings.
Personally, one of the greatest joys has been seeing individuals of all ages walk through our doors, grow in confidence and character, and go on to become leaders, professionals, politicians, directors, and entrepreneurs.
SAS’s success is built on its diverse, multicultural community—people from all walks of life training together in harmony, without conflict, ego, or division. We have always strived to provide a safe, welcoming environment where everyone feels they belong.
Today, we continue our journey despite the many challenges that businesses have faced in recent years. From financial pressures and Brexit to the global impact of COVID-19, we have endured and survived—only just at times. Perhaps this resilience is a reflection of what we practice and teach every day: determination, perseverance, and the strength to keep moving forward.
But more than survival, SAS represents something deeper. It represents lives changed, confidence built, friendships formed, and futures shaped. It represents a place where people discover who they are and who they can become.
Forty years on, our purpose remains the same—to uplift, to guide, and to inspire.
And as we look to the future, we do so with pride in our past, strength in our present, and belief in the generations still to come.
SAS is not just an academy.
It is a family. A legacy. And a lifelong journey.
