On 4 July Ellenborough was out in full force at the London Youth Games, with the entire Enfield table tennis squad coming directly from the club. Ellenborough coach Gordon Izatt led the team through a packed day of competition at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre, guiding Jasmine and Emily in the girls competition and Louis, Nicholas and Dilan in the boys competition.

Enfield win Double Bronze at the London Youth Games 2026 Table Tennis Competition

The 2026 London Youth Games Table Tennis Competition delivered an incredible day of sportsmanship and competition on 4 July 2026, as two hundred young people from across London came together at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre for a chance to compete against their peers.
The young athletes from Enfield did their borough proud, securing bronze medals in both the boys and girls competitions to finish the day with two podium places.

Twenty seven borough teams competed in the boys competition and twenty in the girls competition across doubles, 2v2 and 1v1 matches. Enfield’s players displayed brilliant table tennis skills, representing their borough and creating a sense of pride and personal achievement.

The young girls team battled through the competition to reach the third place play off medal matches against Greenwich, coming out victorious to claim the bronze medals.
The boys team also did brilliantly under pressure, winning their bronze medal matches against Hounslow to secure the bronze medals.

Gordon Izatt, Enfield table tennis team manager, said it had been an absolutely fantastic day for Enfield. He highlighted how proud the group were to win bronze in both competitions and noted that it was the first time the boys had progressed through the group stages and knockouts to reach the medal matches. He praised the atmosphere, the excitement and the encouragement shown across the venue.

The inclusion of table tennis at the London Youth Games has long provided a platform for future careers, with alumni including Tin Tin Ho, who began her journey at London Youth Games and went on to win multiple national titles, two Commonwealth silver medals and appear at the 2020 Summer Olympics.

Sunday at the Ellenborough 1* Under 13 Open brought one of those moments that makes club life feel special. I met Brian Turner, who was there cheering on his grandson. Brian first played at Ellenborough seventy years ago and seeing him back in the hall, still loving the game, was incredible.

ELLENBOROUGH 1* UNDER 13 OPEN 26TH JULY 2026

We held the first ever Open Tournament at Ellenborough with a full entry of 42 players representing 20 different clubs from a wide area of southeast England. Many of our visitors were making their first time appearance at the club. We were happy, but not surprised, to hear favourable comments about the great facilities available.
The standard of table tennis was way ahead of what may be expected from a 1* tournament. As the three knockouts progressed, we saw some outstanding play with many matches running the full distance.
The winner of Band 3 was Beau Leung (Woodford Wells) whose main problem, on the way to the finals, was strong resistance from Yiannis Sayeed (Ellenborough) playing in his first open tournament. Yiannis took Beau to five sets in the quarter final. After that close call, Beau went on to win his semi final and final in three straight sets, beating Marek Nemeth (Thanet Vikings) in the final.
The winner of Band 2 was Aditya Johri Sethi (Stanmore) who, after a shaky start in the final, eventually got the better of Maxim Yefimov (Wensum) winning -12, 2, 9, 5. Aditya also had to overcome fierce opposition from two of the home players, being taken to five sets by Seb Bruce (Ellenborough) and Luke Waite (Ellenborough) en route to the final.
Saisurya Prasanna Kumar (Cippenham) was the convincing overall tournament winner, overcoming Elias Amin (Ellenborough) in the Band 1 final 3, 3, 10. It was a privilege to witness Sai’s timing and consistency, which took him through the tournament without dropping a single set. He thoroughly deserves his current England number 4 ranking in the U13 list as well as our £80 top prize. And he still has a full season ahead of him at that age group.
Sandy and I, jointly running the control desk, were given tremendous support by many club members. We had at least eight senior members helping us by umpiring matches, plus an enthusiastic Food Squad who worked wonders in kitchen and bar area to keep our hundred or so visitors supplied with refreshments. Thanks also to Amanda Alabaster who was our qualified umpire visiting us from Kent.

Saturday 25 July 2026 was our Ellenborough Table Tennis Club Junior Presentation Day and the place was absolutely buzzing. Huge thanks to everyone who turned up and helped make the day a cracker.

We had the Mayor of Enfield, Cllr Emma Supple, with us this year. She presented the awards with style, then picked up a bat afterwards and had a go with the juniors. Safe to say she held her own and the kids loved every minute.

Once the awards were done the juniors hit the tables for free play, coaches jumped in, parents cheered, and the buffet disappeared at record speed. The star of the show was the marvellous 90th anniversary cake which lasted about three minutes before being demolished.

Huge congratulations to Colin Miller who achieved the highest win percentage across multiple leagues and secured the Wilf Carter Award. As the official trophy was unavailable at both the AGM and todays tournament the honour was instead marked with a tin of tuna. The presentation was carried out by our newly crowned Chair Paul Perkins who delivered the tuna with regal intensity and the kind of majestic presence normally associated with coronations and rare astronomical events. This tin now stands as a symbol of Colin’s season sleek unstoppable and rich in protein. May he display it proudly consume it triumphantly or guard it as the sacred artefact it has now become
