Shadwell Sailing Club are undertaking a joint fundraising challenge to raise Β£8,000 towards the running costs of Shadwell Basin Outdoor Activity Centre’s Youth Programme. 100% of all donations received will go directly to the programme.

The Youth Programme is 80% subsidised in order to ensure that it can be as inclusive and accessible to as many local children and families as possible. Demand for our services continues to outstrip our capacity and we have a waiting list of over 90 young people. Unfortunately we are limited by the capacity of our current operating budget to expand our provision.

Over the last couple of years we have held rowing challenges on the River Thames to help in our fundraising efforts. The route of this year’s rowing challenge will be Shadwell Basin to the Thames Barrier and back, and will take place on Sunday 9th July.

If you would like to take part please contact us at [email protected]

Some more pictures from a very fun family day on the basin. Great to see so many smiles. The next family day is scheduled for May 18.

Oarsome Challenge 19/05/2018

Well done to all involved.

Well done to all from Tideway who took part in the Oarsome Challenge to raise money for the local community, including Shadwell Basin Outdoor Activity Centre. 16 Skerries took to the Thames. Some pics from the first group of boats.

Weather: Sunny, windy and hot
Perfect weather and perfect tides meant a great upwind sail to Tower Bridge. A bit of sailing around enjoying the sight of the dome of St Paul's Cathedral silhouetted through Tower Bridge against the setting sun and then a great sail back with the wind at our backs.
We even had time at the beginning of the night to launch our most venerable sailing boat - the Vicky J - who got her first outing of the season. All in all we had the Vicky J, three Wayfarers and the Laser out. A fantastic night!

With the Drascombe on the water we can take even more people, so don't be shy, why not pop down for a sail!

Hi all,

01 May 2018
SI: Stewart Keep
Weather: Sunny and windy
We had a good turnout with three Wayfarers and the Laser out on the water and Stewart in the RIB offering some safety boat practice for a wannabe safety boat driver. Good wind blowing straight down the river made for some quick sailing and all the boats started out with reefs. After getting a feel for the strong tide and seeing that we wouldn't make it 'round the corner' to Tower Bridge a few races were held, with tight competition and some good use of local knowledge.

There's space for more to attend so don't be shy about coming for a sail, we'd love to see you!
