⚔️ A BIG STEP FORWARD FOR SWORDFIGHT CLUB! ⚔️

I'm excited to announce that the Sword Fight Club Longsword Training Companion – Version 1 is finally complete!

The Companion is FREE to download and explore, and I warmly invite everyone interested in historical fencing to take a look!

This publication provides the basic framework, or skeleton, of our current longsword group training programme. It introduces the fundamental concepts, techniques, and principles we study and practise, showing how the different elements connect within our fencing system.

If you're thinking about joining us, or simply visiting one of our classes, I highly recommend having a look at the Companion beforehand. It will give you a clearer idea of what we teach, how our training is structured, and what you can expect from our sessions.

Of course, this is a training companion, not a complete fencing manual. It's designed to support learning and practice, rather than replace them.

Your feedback is always welcome!

If you have any suggestions, constructive criticism, or ideas for improving future versions, please don't hesitate to contact me by email or private message.

This is only Version 1, and there is plenty more to come!

Last Saturday, the London Historical Fencing Club London Historical Fencing Club once again hosted its Intramural Longsword Tournament, bringing together a great group of fencers from different clubs across London and the surrounding area.

This time we fenced under the Priority ruleset, giving us the opportunity not only to compete, but also to practise and learn more about judging under this system.

I really enjoyed it! It’s a very interesting ruleset — although, to be fair, I enjoy fencing under pretty much any ruleset. Each one presents different problems, challenges and tactical situations to solve, and that’s one of the things I really enjoy about competing.

This time I managed to finish in 3rd place and take home the bronze medal! 🥉⚔️

🥇 Dan Pavel — London Historical Fencing Club
🥈 Matthias de Oliveira — Ausardia
🥉 Gábor Antali — SwordFight Club

Huge congratulations to Dan and Matthias on their results, very well deserved!

A big thank you to everyone who took part, and especially to the London Historical Fencing Club for organising another great tournament and for continuing to be such an important hub for the historical fencing community in London.

Thank you, LHFC and we definitely want more! ⚔️

Great atmosphere at last night’s class! ⚔️

We explored a few feinting techniques from the Speaking Window Guard, learning how to provoke reactions and create openings.

Another useful tool to add to our fencing toolbox! ⚔️

Thanks to everyone who joined, see you next week!

Even my holidays can’t pass without a bit of reading, taking notes, or simply refreshing my memory.
On the cooler evenings, with the salty sea air and the sound of the waves in the background, there was still time for a little fencing practice too. :)

"Well... how can I dominate this line?"

"Like this." 💥

It was still incredibly today, so we kept the training light and focused on technique rather than intensity.

Today's lesson was all about controlling the centre line, creating an opening, and immediately following up with an attacking action. Simple concepts—but essential skills that every fencer needs to develop.

Great work from everyone, and we finished with some relaxed sparring to test the techniques we had been practising.

See you all next week!

📜⚔️ New HemaLore article!

I recently discovered this wonderful satirical fencing article from 1897 about the fine art of knowing you've been hit... and somehow not admitting it. 😄

Some fencing problems never seem to go away.

Another treasure has been added to my collection of Hungarian duelling literature.❤️‍🔥⚔️🇭🇺

This time, it is a work published in 1901: A kardpárbaj veszélytelen kimenetele és annak eshetőségei, written by First Lieutenant Zoltán Cseresnyés Felső-Eőri of the Royal Hungarian Hussars. The foreword was written by Baron Jenő Bothmer, Captain of Hussars.

It is a fascinating work that explores the mental, moral, and chivalric preparation for the sword duel, offering a remarkable insight into the values, honour, and mindset associated with duelling at the turn of the twentieth century.

New, old, and regular faces all together, we had a fruitful class.❤️‍🔥

This time our focus was on how to control the centre line and apply a few follow-up actions.
