🥋 WHY IS SELF-DEFENCE IMPORTANT?

Self-defence is not about looking for confrontation or proving how strong you are.

Responsible self-defence begins with:

👀 Being aware of your surroundings
🧠 Recognising and avoiding unsafe situations
🗣️ Setting clear boundaries and seeking help
🧘 Remaining calm enough to make sensible decisions
🥋 Using physical skills only when necessary

Martial arts training provides a controlled environment in which students can develop confidence, coordination and self-control while learning to work safely with others.

No martial art can guarantee someone’s safety. The aim is to develop greater awareness, sensible judgement and appropriate responses—not encourage unnecessary confrontation.

True strength includes knowing when to walk away.

🥋 WHAT IS TANG SOO DO?

Tang Soo Do is a traditional Korean martial art that combines physical training with discipline, respect and personal development.

Students learn and practise:

👊 Hand techniques
🦵 Kicking techniques
👣 Stances and movement
🥋 Traditional forms known as hyung
🛡️ Controlled self-defence skills
🎯 Focus, balance and coordination

Training is progressive, so beginners start with the foundations before gradually developing their knowledge, technique and confidence.

Tang Soo Do is not only about learning how to perform techniques. It encourages students to develop self-control, perseverance and respect—qualities that can be valuable both inside and outside the training hall.

Would you like to experience it for yourself?

🥋 WHAT DOES “HORANGI” MEAN?

Horangi—호랑이—is the Korean word for tiger. 🐯

The tiger is a powerful symbol of courage, determination and strength—qualities that can be developed through dedicated martial arts training.

But strength in Tang Soo Do is not simply physical.

It is also the courage to try something unfamiliar, the determination to keep practising and the self-control to use what you learn responsibly.

You do not need to possess all these qualities before joining Horangi. Training gives you opportunities to develop them, one class at a time.

What quality would you most like to strengthen?

🥋 DO I NEED A MARTIAL ARTS UNIFORM?

Not for your introductory class!

There is no need to buy a dobok before discovering whether Tang Soo Do is right for you.

For your first class, simply wear:

👕 A comfortable T-shirt
👖 Jogging bottoms or suitable sports clothing
💧 Bring a drink
💍 Remove jewellery before training

Choose clothing that allows you to move comfortably and safely. Training is normally completed barefoot, so special footwear is not required.

The most important thing to bring is a willingness to listen, learn and have a go.

📅 Free introductory class: Friday 11 September
⏰ 5:50pm–6:30pm
📍 Crawley Horticultural Society Hall, West Green, Crawley, RH11
