Movement comes in many forms, and we don't always have to 'workout' in the conventional sense to feel good and get strong. Adding movement to daily life with small changes to habits and home is a great way to feel the benefits of moving more without needing lots of time, kit or knowledge. Short, daily #movementsnacks can add up to a big increase in total movement throughout the week, and the strength and fitness that you build.

Push ups work several muscle groups when correct - shoulders, arms, chest, core, back - in a short time and without the need for any kit. This version on a raised surface is easier than push ups on the ground, and is more accessible for most of us.

You can do them any time - at home while you're waiting for tea to brew or toast to grill in the mornings, at your desk when you need to take a break. Even better, take it outside - look for opportunities to interact with the environment around you when you're out on a walk or a run to add in some strength-building.

I'm not sure who to credit for the idea of movement snacks - I first came across it in the work of the brilliant Katy Bowman (@nutritiousmovement) and through my @movnat training.

This is brilliant and coincides nicely with the beginners/no time to train workout. Fitting exercise into you daily life where ever and how ever you can you.Very useful and spot on advice from an excellent PT (and one of my best friends from school), Alli Suddaby (and wow, where she lives is stunning.)
Little changes can make a big difference. Adding a few simple exercises to your day where ever you can will make a difference to your daily calorie burn, keeping your muscles and joints working, helping to prevent injury and improving your mental health to boot, keeping you on the right path for looking after your health long-term.

I'm still here.... Keeping fit by running after a toddler. How are you all doing?

It's been nearly 2 years since I trained, let alone taught a class or took part in one. Before I can teach I've got to get fit again. How? There's no weights for sale unless you want to remortgage your home. So I grabbed the nearest 11kg weight I could find. She's surprisingly compliant. When it's been a while or you're only just starting out training remember #everylittlehelps #anythingisbetterthannothing #stayinworkout #beatlockdownlethargy #trainingwithababy #bodypump #beyourbestself #jaimediana 09/05/2020

My deepest admiration goes out to parents who find the energy or time to train. The first time I went to the gym when Jaime was 7 months old she treated her dad to 45 minutes of full volume howling. I didn't try again for a while. Pre baby I genuinely thought it was possible for anyone to find at least 3 times a week where there could train for 45 minutes. I now know differently. It's not just parents. Jaime was premature at 26 weeks, during her 9 week stay in nicu I met some amazing nurses. These incredible people look after several babies at a time doing 12 hour shifts! I'm not going to tell them they need to go to the gym after that, unless they want to. Finding a way to train or eat healthily when you work long shifts is a real challenge and if this is you, you're doing brilliantly what ever you manage.
During lockdown I'm making time to train however I can, getting my daughter involved seems the only answer. Plus, at 11kg she makes a handy beginner weight . If its been a while, or never at all and you're struggling to get into training ... Then I'm with you.
