Strength training is vital for optimal body composition especially as we age but when it comes to getting started people can be put off by assumptions that strength training…
❌ needs to be an 1hr long
❌ needs to be done in a gym
❌ needs to be done 3-4 times per week
❌ will make you bulky
❌ needs to be complex
However luckily a lot can be achieved in a short period of time with consistency and an effective workout. Strength training…
✅ can be done in small blocks of time with some even advocating for just 5 minutes per day* and others showing how just 3 seconds a day** can have a positive impact on muscle strength
✅ can be done anywhere you want! Even at home or outside
✅ can have results from just one session per week
✅ will not immediately make you bulky - this requires a lot more effort than people want to put in!
✅ can be as simple as a few foundational exercises done regularly, even these can be modified and progressed to ensure you don’t plateau
So try not to use time as an excuse to avoid strength training, rather think about the time you can carve out and make sure you use it optimally.
