Some FLC and Britannia Ladies (Alexia and Summer) recently entered the Southgate Ladies Graded Squash Competition, held at Southgate Squash and Racketball Club, London N14.
Alexia and Summer have only recently started playing squash - in Summer's case - she only started playing squash as a beginner about a year ago! - achieving third place in her group.
Alexia has been playing slightly longer, having been introduced to squash by her brothers, but until comparatively recently had not participated in any formal competitive squash, and also achieved third place in her group.
Entering graded competitions like this (players are divided into groups of similar experience and ability) is a great way to take your playing up to the next level - the training and level of focus required improves your game and gives your practice and game play purpose.
Well done Alexia and Summer, you've taken the first steps to developing your squash to new heights!
Entering tournaments is itself an education in competitive sports participation and mentality - watching other players to see what you can add to your game, mentally measuring your skill set and fitness against others, looking for ideas, seeing how others react and dig in when under pressure, and finally, putting your skills, fitness and training to the test against others.
