5 Things to Do if Your Legs Still Won’t Grow
If your upper body fills shirts but your legs never change, it’s not genetics — it’s strategy. Here’s what to fix:
1️⃣ Track Your Progress
You can’t improve what you don’t measure. If your squat, hack, or leg press numbers haven’t moved in months, neither will your legs.
Log your lifts, reps, and total volume so you can see progress on paper, not just in the mirror.
2️⃣ Squat Every Other Week
Your nervous system can only take so much heavy loading before performance flatlines.
Rotate your squat sessions — one week heavy, the next week focus on machines or unilateral work.
This deloads the CNS while still stimulating the muscles.
3️⃣ Increase Leg Training Frequency
Once a week isn’t enough for most people.
Split your lower body training into two sessions — one strength-focused (low reps, heavy weight) and one hypertrophy-focused (moderate weight, higher reps).
The extra exposure drives adaptation.
4️⃣ Fuel Properly
Legs are energy-hungry. Under-eating or chasing fat loss while trying to grow is a dead end.
Prioritise protein, stay in a mild calorie surplus, and time your carbs around training for better output and recovery.
5️⃣ Train With Precision, Not Pain
Chasing soreness doesn’t build legs — quality ex*****on does.
Control the tempo, use full range, and feel the muscle lengthen and contract.
