I have a black belt from Bob Breen. The meaning of that changed slightly for me yesterday. I earned mine in 2011 and I opened Camden Martial Arts in late 2016. Arta joined not long afterwards. Yesterday she became Camden Martial Arts’s first black belt, taking the gruelling test in front of Bob along with 9 guys. She did me proud. Here’s to many more CMA black belts. 🙏

Took some students to a seminar with the Boss at the weekend: Bob Breen, my friend and mentor for over 25 years. We went deep with some no frills boxing, then explored some advanced stick and knife disarms. It’s amazing where you can get to if you keep turning up. 🙏

I am Dan Inosanto lineage under Bruce Lee and tend towards more of a kickboxing base than the wing chun leanings of eg. Ted Wong lineage. Nevertheless, wing chun gung fu has some super cool stuff in it, and while training in Rome with G**o Dan last month, I also got to train with one of the world’s best practitioners again: Sifu Francis Fong. He is scarily good! 🙏

Lineage is very important in the martial arts and this is from a recent trip to Rome to train with Dan Inosanto. He was Bruce Lee’s best friend and top student, and I’ve been an instructor under him for the last three years (something I’m still struggling to process). This means I am obliged to train with him for 20 hours every year as a minimum, to learn from him and keep the connection meaningful. As a source of martial knowledge, culture, history, and… humanity, he is truly an incredible human being. Get in touch if you’d like to join the jeet kune do legacy. 🙏

The wall drill. No footwork and a new partner every 45 seconds. A great way to sharpen up. 🙏
