This month we're highlighting the City BSKF Dojo, one of London's founding clubs.

City dojo was established in November 1974 by Tameo Mizuno as the City University branch, making it one of the first Shorinji Kempo dojos in the UK. Along with Mayfair (a descendant of Finchley Road), it's the oldest BSKF branch.

The club has a rich lineage of notable instructors. Jeremy Shackleton served as Branch Master after Mizuno Sensei until his death in 1991, followed by Paul Barnes, Adrian Simpson, and Robert Villiers (6th dan, now BSKF Chief Instructor), who still trains at City regularly. Alumni include Ben Perkins, founder of East London dojo, who achieved his 2nd and 3rd dan at City.

Today the dojo is led by Branch Master Daniel Kalhor (5th dan), who was recently appointed as BSKF Co-Director at the 2025 AGM.

City dojo emphasizes practical self-defence combined with physical fitness, incorporating circuits and padwork into training sessions. The focus is on mutual respect and cooperation, with mindful
meditation and philosophy integrated into classes.

Want to try Shorinji Kempo? 🥋

City dojo trains on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Finsbury Leisure Centre, Norman Street, EC1V 3PU (Clerkenwell).

Classes are open to all adults (age 18+) and all fitness levels.

For more information, visit: www.citykempo.com

As always, we recommend contacting the dojo directly for the most up-to-date information on training times and locations.
