Most of you know I’ve been teaching yoga for nearly 20 years, and during that time my understanding of movement has evolved.
I still love yoga and always will (I was at a class this morning and it was awesome❤️), but I’ve come to realise that being flexible on its own isn’t enough. Equally, being strong on its own isn’t enough either.
For years I chased “the edge” of a pose, always looking for a little more flexibility. Sometimes it worked…but sometimes it left me feeling vulnerable, and I injured myself because my body simply wasn’t strong enough to support the position I was asking it to hold.
Then I discovered strength training.
That was another revelation. I became stronger than ever, but I also realised that lifting weights alone wasn’t giving me everything I needed. Being able to deadlift or hip thrust a heavy weight doesn’t automatically mean you’ll move well in everyday life.
That’s when everything clicked.
Mobility is flexibility with strength.
That one sentence completely changed how I think about movement.
To me, mobility means building strength, control and confidence throughout your range of movement…not simply chasing a deeper stretch. It also means understanding that our bodies respond best when they feel safe. Through breathing, awareness, patience and strength, we create the conditions for better movement rather than forcing it.
That’s exactly what The Twisted Method…and Movement Club…is all about.
Not achieving the perfect yoga pose…but helping you feel strong enough to get down to the floor, lift a suitcase, reach into the back of the car, play with your grandchildren, enjoy your favourite sports and, ultimately…
keep saying yes to life.
But don’t just take my word for it…
Here’s what Tony has to say💙
Keep doing what you love.

Do you know one of the biggest predictors of staying independent as you get older?
It’s not whether you can touch your toes.
It’s whether you can get down to the floor…and back up again.
Take a moment and about it. Kids do it loads every day. But most adults over 50 avoid it altogether.
The problem isn’t that we can’t get down there.
It’s that we stop practising.
And our bodies respond by saying,
“If you don’t need this movement anymore, I’ll get rid of it.” You’d better believe that, because our bodies are super efficient…as the old saying goes “use it or lose it”.
So here’s something you can try today…
👉 Sit on the floor while you’re watching TV.
👉 Change position every few minutes.
👉 Sit cross-legged, kneel, stretch your legs out, lean on one hand, swap sides.
👉 When you get up, try not to use your hands if it’s safe to do so.
Don’t stress or if it’s awkward. This simply means you’ve found something worth practising.
This isn’t me saying that you need to become “good at yoga.”
It’s about making sure that in 10, 20 or 30 years’ time, your body is still saying “Yes!” to the life you want to live and that you’re feeling vibrant and alive.
That’s exactly why I created Movement Club.
Every Saturday we work on the things that matter most as we age:
✔ Strength
✔ Mobility
✔ Balance
✔ Confidence
✔ Real-life movement
…and then we finish with coffee, cake and plenty of laughs at Rosie & Kev’s.
It’s all about remembering that looking after your body shouldn’t feel like a chore. It should be one of the highlights of your week.
Keep doing what you love. Build a body that lets you🤩❤️💪🏼

✨KEEP DOING WHAT YOU LOVE✨
The philosophy behind everything I teach.
When I first started out, like many yoga teachers, flexibility was the goal (although I’ve always had a penchant for strength and power😉💪🏼). But these days, (maybe it’s because I’m older and so are my clients) I believe there’s something even more important…
💛Building a body that supports the life you want to live💛
For me now, that means creating strength first, with mobility and flexibility coming from that foundation. Combine those with balance, breathwork and intelligent movement, and suddenly your body starts working with you, not against you.
Whether you love walking, gardening, tennis, golf, swimming, lifting weights, dancing, travelling or just want to feel stronger and more confident in everyday life, this is exactly what Movement Club is designed for.
It’s less of a traditional yoga class, but it’s not a bootcamp either. It’s a different way of moving that combines intelligent strength work, mobility, flexibility, balance and breathwork to help you build a body that feels capable and resilient.
Over the last few years, I’ve realised that strength was the missing piece in my own practice. So now I spend time weight training in the gym, and I support that with mobility, flexibility and movement work.
Movement Club is where all of those worlds come together.
It’s inspired by the way I now train and the way I want to move through life. The strength work supports my mobility, my mobility supports my strength, and together they help me feel stronger, more capable and more confident in my body than ever before.
And that’s exactly what I hope to help other people discover too.
If you’re local to New Barnet and you’ve been looking for something a little different, I’d love to welcome you.
Come and see what Movement Club is all about💙
When I first started teaching, flexibility was the goal.
And unsurprisingly, I knew plenty of practitioners (& teachers!) who ended up injured in the pursuit of going deeper & further into their stretches & postures.
These days, I see things differently.
As we move through midlife, flexibility alone isn’t enough. We need strength, balance, mobility, coordination & a nervous system that knows when to switch on & when to switch off.
For me, strength has become the foundation for intelligent mobility & flexibility…both on the mat & in everyday life.
At almost 55, I’m practising what I preach. I’ve never been stronger, & I’ve never felt more mobile.
Can I do the “perfect” splits anymore? Probably not. But honestly, I don’t care.
I’m far more interested in building a body that feels capable, resilient & supported. A body that can lift, carry, dance, travel, play sport, get up & down from the floor & enjoy life without constantly worrying about injury.
This is the philosophy behind everything I’m teaching now.
Not flexibility OR strength.
Strength AND flexibility.
Because the goal isn’t to look the best on the mat.
The goal is to get better at life.
Come & join The Movement❤️🙏🏼🙋🏼♀️

New props have arrived👀🧹✨
And no…we’re not doing housework…or learning to fly🤣
These broom handles are about to start making appearances in classes as part of our mobility, movement and strength work. Simple tools can be incredibly effective for helping with posture, shoulder mobility, spinal movement, balance, coordination and body awareness…and they’re brilliant for helping people actually feel how their body is moving.
One of the things I love most is that movement doesn’t need to be complicated to be effective. Sometimes the simplest props create the biggest lightbulb moments💡
Expect more mobility drills, strength work, movement patterns, lots of laughter…and probably the occasional “oooh I can really feel that” moment👌🏼🤯
Twisties…you’ve been warned😘
This might not look like “yoga”… but for me, this is yoga too.
Learning how to move well.
How to stay strong.
How to age intelligently.
How to support the nervous system and the body together🧘🏼♀️🏋🏼♀️
Weight training has become one of the most important non-negotiables in my weekly movement sessions…alongside mobility work, breathwork and traditional yoga practices.
Because the goal isn’t just flexibility anymore.
It’s capability💪🏼
I believe this blend of strength, movement, mobility and mindful practice is where us mid-lifers need to be hanging out.
That’s the direction I’m moving in now…and it’s exactly what’s inspiring the new class I’m launching soon.
⚡Saturday Movement Club⚡
A space for mid-lifers who want to move well, feel strong, stay mobile and train intelligently.
📣Launching end of May in the New Barnet area👀

There’s a difference between teaching shapes…and teaching Yoga.
Truthfully, this is one of the reasons I’ve moved away from calling myself “just” a Yoga Teacher.
Yoga has become heavily commercialised and reduced to stretching classes, aesthetics and trendy branding.
A sequence of postures does not automatically equal Yoga.
You can teach something that looks like Yoga and still have very little understanding of the philosophy, breathwork, nervous system regulation, energetics, ethics, or deeper purpose behind the practice.
And equally, you can teach strength, mobility, embodiment and breathwork in a way that doesn’t look traditionally “yogic” at all…yet still be deeply rooted in yogic principles.
That’s where my work has evolved.
I care far more about helping women build strength, regulate their nervous systems, reconnect to their bodies and move with awareness than performative wellness or flexibility for Instagram.
Because real teaching goes deeper than branding.
So please be discerning about who you learn from.
Just because someone says they teach Yoga or wellness doesn’t automatically mean they truly understand the depth and responsibility behind it.
Qualifications matter. But understanding, embodiment, integrity and continued study matter too.
And that distinction matters more than ever🙏🏼🤩❤️

You’re not just “getting older”… you’re basically becoming a reflection of whatever random stuff you’ve been doing (or not doing) for the last few decades😬
The future version of your body isn’t some mystery…it’s being built right now.
Yep, literally right now⏰ Even you slouching reading this.
Most people wait until their back goes…or their hips lock up…or they make that weird noise getting off the couch…then suddenly it’s “I should stretch more”, or “I’d better start going to the gym”🏋🏼♀️
Groundbreaking🤯
For me, it’s never been about smashing workouts or pretending I’m 25. It’s more about keeping everything working well enough that future me isn’t annoyed at present me. This is where the idea of FUTURE PROOFING my body started…and how my whole mix of stuff comes in (I call it Twisted Method Movement, but it’s really just common sense with a bit of structure, you know?)
🧘🏼♀️Move your body in different ways
🤸🏼♀️Get a bit stronger (nothing heroic required)
🔧Keep your joints moving so they don’t feel like rusty hinges
🫁Breathe properly (you’d be surprised how bad most of us are at this)
Some days it’s strength. Some days it’s mobility. Some days it’s just trying to undo the damage from sitting at my desk for 6 hours.
It’s not about being perfect…it’s about not completely falling apart👌🏼😊
Because the difference between ageing like you’ve been hit by a bus vs ageing like you’ve at least tried to stay functional?
It’s not luck. It’s habits.
As they say…Small habits, done consistently, make big changes❤️😄
