A good kick is not just about what happens in the air.
What happens before it and where you land afterwards matters just as much.
In this exercise, our students are learning to combine their kicks with purposeful footwork: bounce without drifting, deliver the kick and use the kick itself to travel forwards.
That small correction makes an enormous difference.
It improves balance, distance control and the ability to move with intention rather than simply rushing towards an opponent.
This is how strong technique is developed: careful instruction, focused repetition and the confidence to keep improving.
And, as always, we recognise the courage it takes to demonstrate in front of the whole class. Well done! šš„

Children carry more than books into a new school year.
They may carry worries about fitting in, speaking up, getting something wrong or facing challenges without a parent beside them.
Confidence cannot simply be handed to a child with the words, āBelieve in yourself.ā
They need opportunities to earn it.
Every time they step onto the mats, attempt something unfamiliar and discover that a mistake is not the end, they build evidence that says:
āI can handle this.ā
That is the confidence they carry into school, friendships and the rest of their lives.

SEPTEMBER STARTS HERE.
A new school year brings new classrooms, new expectations and new challenges.
It can also be the moment a child begins discovering what they are truly capable of.
In our classes, children donāt simply learn how to kick. They learn to keep trying when something feels difficult, listen when distractions are everywhere and carry themselves with growing confidence.
From a Tiger taking their first brave step onto the mats to a black belt preparing to lead others, every journey begins somewhere.
Let September be their beginning.
Message us with the word START to arrange your childās TanāGun try-out.

š„ Tired? Yes. Finished? Not yet! š„
You can see it on their faces⦠These little Dragons have worked hard! š“š„
But even when the energy is running low, theyāre still listening, still practising and still pushing themselves to earn those all-important medals.
Thatās what martial arts teaches at this age: keep going, even when youāre tired.
Every sticker earned. Every medal achieved. Every little bit of effort counts. šš
Well done, Dragons, you earned these! š
These teenagers are bouncing forwards, bouncing back and switching stance.
Forward once. Back once. Forward twice. Then, instead of planting the foot, they lift it straight into a turning kick or side kick.
Although the kick is what people notice, the footwork creates it. This is where they learn to stay balanced, move without hesitation and remain ready for whatever comes next.
Itās a small adjustment, but it makes the technique quicker, cleaner and harder to predict.

Theyāre moving from one side to the other, repeating the combination and building the pace a little more each time.
Although it looks fast, speed isnāt the starting point. First comes the movement, timing and balance. Then, as they stop overthinking each action, the momentum begins to build.
Thatās how good technique starts to flow.

One kick is easy.
But what happens when you have to kick again⦠and again⦠and again⦠without putting your foot down? š
In this part of our beginner Ninja front-kick lesson, we start challenging the children to keep their knee up while performing multiple kicks.
The goal is to stop the kick becoming a little flick of the foot.
𦵠Keep the knee at the same height
𦶠Kick and re-chamber
šŖ Squeeze the big leg muscle at the end of the kick
āļø Control your balance
š„ Then do it again!
And when it starts getting difficult, thatās when we discover something importantā¦
If your balance improves, your kicks improve too.
Better balance means better control.
Better control means better technique.
And better technique means a much stronger front kick. š„š„

Up they go! šÆš
When youāre three or four years old, jumping isnāt quite as simple as adults remember it being. š
Both feet have to leave the floor.
Your body has to work out where it is in the air.
And then, rather importantlyā¦
youāve got to LAND!
Thatās exactly what our Tigers are working on here.
Jumping games are brilliant for helping our youngest martial artists become more confident with movement.
Theyāre learning how to use their legs properly, how to control their bodies and how to land without disappearing into a heap on the mat. š
And look at them go.
Some start with the tiniest little hop.
Then suddenly that little hop becomes a proper jump.
And once they realiseā¦
āWAIT⦠I CAN DO THIS!ā
ā¦you can see the confidence change almost instantly.
Thatās what Tigers is about.
Yes, weāre introducing martial arts.
But weāre also giving little children opportunities to move, experiment, succeed and become increasingly confident in what their bodies can do.
And sometimesā¦
that starts with simply getting BOTH FEET OFF THE FLOOR! šÆš„š„
