Favourite angle to watch tennis?
Try this drill to improve your net game 🎯
👉 This is one of the best drills to do to improve your volleys
👉 By having your non-hitting hand behind the back, this places all the racket weight in your hitting hand.
👉 This builds strength and stability in the forearm muscles, and it reduces the backswing because you have very little time and it’s hard to cheat on your swings without the use of your non hitting hand
👉 I do this with players of all levels because it’s such a great way to build that stable contact point at the net.
👉 Trust me, if you go for twenty-five or thirty balls in a row, you’ll already start to feel the burn in those forearm muscles. So try it out and let me know how it goes.

Karolina Muchova’s power position on the smash 🎾
Left hand - Your non hitting hand plays a vital role on the overhead smash in tennis. It helps you to balance the upper body, stay upright, and helps you track the ball and judge the distance between yourself and the oncoming ball
Racket head - The racket head should be above the grip in the power position, creating the ideal position to accelerate from. Much like the power position on the serve
Left shoulder - Getting side on with your body is crucial to hitting a solid smash. To ensure this is achieved, make sure you’re tracking the ball from over your left shoulder, so the entire arm is across the body line
Elbow position - imagine throwing a ball, you want to have the elbow bent to around a 90 degree angle, ready to launch into the smash

Roger Federer’s Power Position on Serve 🎾
🎯 Federer had one of the best serves of all time. His accuracy was incredible, his disguise was perfect and his second serve was one of the best of all time.
➡️ Federer used a platform stance, but unlike many other players who use that stance, Roger fully engaged his back leg and ensured his weight was distributed evenly in this position
➡️ This allowed Federer to use both legs equally as well, to create maximum leg drive on his serve
“Don’t swing high to low”
“Don’t brush up the ball” and
“Don’t use your wrist on the forehand”
❌ These are some of the tips I’ve seen lately that need to be discussed.
👉 As we can see here with Federer, when he’s going for heavy topspin, his entire racket head will drop below the point of contact so that he’s able to brush up during his strike zone.
👉 And a huge part of this motion is the forearm pronating after contact. At the point of contact, your wrist should be laid back, and after contact, the wrist goes back into a neutral position.
❌ So the wrist isn’t the dominant force. He’s not snapping his wrist, and he’s also not relying on his shoulder joint to lift the racket head.
👉 The forearm pronation is the driving force. You definitely don’t want to be snapping your wrist, and you also don’t want to keep the wrist laid back because then you won’t get as much acceleration whilst putting a lot of stress on your wrist joint. However, the wrist is definitely involved in the action, but it’s a very similar action to that long axis rotation on the serve.
👉 There are two ways to produce topspin in tennis. You can brush over the top of the ball, which will make the ball drop very quickly. But if you do that from the baseline, the ball is going to end up hitting the ground on your side of the court.
And then you have the brushing up motion. And if you want to do this at high speeds, you have to have that forearm pronating after contact.
I’ve heard all of these statements from coaches, players and parents:
“Hand feeding is a waste of time”
“Basket drills are a waste of time”
“Rallying is a waste of time”
“Shadow swings are a waste of time”
And then you watch the best players in the world, use all of them.
There are so many tools to use to help someone improve, and experienced coaches know how to help someone improve with each and every one.
