🧵🧡 AFTER GOODBYE, WE ARE ALL CONNECTED 🧡🧵

For the 6th year, Mortlake Crematorium is coming together to support National Grief Awareness Week 2026 with our community walk and run.

This year, we’re bringing people together around one simple but powerful idea: that after goodbye, we are all connected, young or old, by a Thread of Hope. 🧵

Grief can sometimes feel lonely, but coming together reminds us that we are not alone. Whether we are remembering someone we love, supporting a friend, or simply walking alongside others, every connection matters. 🧡

🏃‍♀️🚶 JOIN US!

📅 Saturday 5th December 2026
⏰ 10.30am
📍 Mortlake Crematorium

Walk or run at your own pace, choosing any distance from a gentle stroll around the Lavender Roundabout to our 5k route taking in Two Bridges. Everyone is welcome!

And afterwards? ☕🍰 Lovely pastries, cakes, a cuppa and a good old chat. Because sometimes, the simplest things — being together, listening and sharing a little time — can make all the difference.

👕 WANT TO JOIN US? Please let me know your T-shirt size as we’ll be placing our order very soon!

Let’s come together to remember those who have died, support those who are grieving, and celebrate the connections that continue long after goodbye.

One community. Many stories. One Thread of Hope. 🧡🧵

💙 THE WAY OF THE FATHER 💙

At Mortlake Crematorium, we recognise the importance of remembering every baby and supporting all those who grieve, including the dads who carry their loss with them throughout their lives.

Mark, Dad of Christian and James, and photographer at Remember My Baby, has written the following poem, which he has kindly given permission to share.

THE WAY OF THE FATHER

The way of the father is being met in the hospital corridor to be told, “I’m sorry, we’ve done everything we can.”

The way of the father is whispering through tears to his baby. “I’m so sorry there’s nothing I could do.”

The way of the father is to walk with shoulders back, carrying an empty baby seat to the hospital carpark.

The way of the father is making the phones calls he never imagined he’d have to make. For some reason he feels ashamed that he’ll return to the office no longer and expecting Dad.

The way of the father is phoning a friend two years after the offer was made to talk. Just that reassurance has kept him comforted. He’s shared that he’s published a book to help himself make sense of it all and hopefully offer some comfort to others.

The way of the father is joining a football team of bereaved dads and to have his baby’s name embroidered under the badge. A brotherhood he never imagined he’d join. Their messages sent on the anniversary fill his heart like nothing else.

The way of the father is to decide to run a marathon in memory of his baby, he hopes with all his heart that the sponsorship he’ll raise will go towards preventing others having to go through the same. Above all, his baby’s name is lifted high in remembrance.

The way of the father is to quietly, and alone, pour out tears as he goes through a memory box of photographs and hand prints decades later. He knows he’ll feel better in a while, but even after all these years, something deep down needs to grieve once again.

The way of the father is to meet again, on days just like these to remember together with those who truly understand.

🕯️ Wave of Light – Baby Loss Awareness Week 🕯️

The final day of Baby Loss Awareness Week is marked by the global Wave of Light at 7pm tonight, when people around the world light a candle in memory of the babies who have died.

At Mortlake Crematorium, we warmly welcome anyone who would like to join us in our Chapel between 7pm and 8pm to light a candle, remember their baby, and feel part of this special moment of remembrance.

Every candle represents a little life remembered, a love that never fades, and a family that will never forget. 💗

Whether your loss was recent or many years ago, you are welcome here. You are not alone.

🕯️ Light a candle. Remember a life. Share the light.

🦋 Baby Loss Awareness Week 💗

At Mortlake Crematorium, we remember all the babies who have died and the families who carry their love with them every day.

During Baby Loss Awareness Week, we invite you to tie a ribbon to our main gates in memory of a baby or babies who have died. Each ribbon is a small but meaningful way to honour a precious life, share a moment of remembrance and show families that they are not alone.

🎀 Ribbons are available free of charge by our main gate, and everyone is welcome to take part.

Whether your loss was recent or many years ago, your baby will always be remembered, always be loved and always matter.

We are thinking of all the families who have experienced the loss of a baby. You are not alone. 💗

If you would like us to tie a ribbon on the gate for you, please direct message.

Last Wednesday I felt incredibly privileged to be at Westminster Abbey to celebrate the 10th anniversary of The Good Grief Trust. 💜

It was a beautiful and very moving occasion, but for me, the most poignant part was listening to bereaved people share their stories.

Many had experienced the devastating loss of someone they loved and, from that grief, had gone on to create charities in memory of those who had died, turning their own experiences into something that could help others.

There is something very special about peer-to-peer support. When someone who has been through grief says, “I understand, I’ve been there too,” it can make the hardest days feel just a little less lonely.

Talking about the difficult days, the sadness and the things that people don't always understand about grief can help someone else realise that what they are feeling is normal, and that they are not alone.

I truly believe it is the lived experience, kindness and support of others that can help people find their way through grief.

The Good Grief Trust now brings together more than 1,400 bereavement charities and organisations under one umbrella. That means we can help signpost bereaved people towards the support they need.

At Mortlake Crematorium, we see every day how important support is, not just at the time of a funeral, but before, during and after a death.

I have huge respect and appreciation for every person who has taken their own experience of loss and created something to help others. What an incredible legacy for the people who have died.

Congratulations to The Good Grief Trust on 10 wonderful years of bringing people together and making sure that no one has to go through grief alone. 💜
