Yoga Teacher Training & Retreats The Shala was founded by Gingi Lee in 1997, as one of London's first dedicated yoga centres.

In 2014, the Shala expanded and took over a newly refurbished space in a Victorian warehouse in West Norwood, on the fringes of West Dulwich. And in 2016, it developed a well respected teacher training programme. The beautiful purpose-built new centre incorporates three light-filled studios, a therapy room, reception, changing facilities and a small coffee bar for post-practice coffee. There daily

A 50% bursary is available for our Elemental Yoga Nidra Teacher Training with Emma Landolt.

We believe yoga education should be accessible to the people who will use it to create positive change in their communities. If financial barriers have held you back, this bursary may help make your training possible.

The bursary is designed to support people from groups that have been historically under-represented in the yoga world, who are experiencing genuine financial difficulty and are committed to making yoga more accessible to others.

If you've been waiting for the right moment to begin your Yoga Nidra teaching journey, this could be it.

Applications are now open. Visit our bursaries page to learn more about the eligibility criteria and how to apply.

Nature has an inexplicable way of bringing you back to yourself in the most effortless way.

The wind, the trees, the sky, the open air β€” they don’t demand anything. They just contain you as you are, reminding you that we are all connected to each other and to the planet.

A few moments from our 2025–2026 200 Hour Teacher Training cohort.🩷

Over the past few months, this group has shared practices, conversations, challenges, laughter and countless moments of growth together.

Our 200 Hour Teacher Training is about so much more than learning to teach yoga. It's an opportunity to deepen your practice, explore the many layers of yoga, cultivate connection with self and others – and discover your own authentic voice, whether your intention is to teach or simply to grow personally.

It is always a privilege to be part of this transformative process.

Applications for our September 2026 intake are now open. If you're curious about joining us, we'd love to welcome you.

Profound humanity.

The first of seven values that shape what we do at the school.

We asked 200 graduates to share four words for about their training. These are some of the words they offered that relate to the Shala value of profound humanity.

Being able to practise an advanced posture and being able to teach it are two very different skills.

This immersive two-day training is designed to give you the confidence to teach inversions, arm balances and backbends safely and intelligently. Learn how to break down complex poses into accessible progressions, use props and the wall effectively, offer safe hands-on adjustments, and create thoughtful sequences that support every student.

As teachers we have to practice what we preach! A glimpse of Charli taking a moment for self care in her busy schedule at the Shala. Sorry Charli for interrupting that peaceful moment!

Often used to mean well-structured – peak pose, preparation, counterpose, the architecture of a class.

That's definitely part of it. But intelligent sequencing also asks: intelligent for whom, on what day, toward what? A sequence that's beautifully planned out in your notebook can land badly in a room of frayed bodies on a gloomy evening in February.

The intelligence isn't only in the structure, it's also in the reading of who's actually in front of you, and the willingness to adjust. We need structure and we need planning in teaching yoga, but we also need flexibility and adaptability.

Our 200 and 300 hour programmes covers the architecture of how to build a class, but more than that, it's about learning to teach the class the room actually needs.

Each group of students we take on a 200 hour journey, has its own distinct identity.

This spontaneous moment in time captures the spirit of what this amazing all-female 2024-2025 cohort would get up to when we were taking a break!

It’s not always like this on trainings, but it was a regular occurence with these wild and free and joyous ladies who had definitely released all inhibitions by the end of their training πŸ˜‰
