Stay cool…and no funnel ducking or Mr Duck will make a visit!

In all seriousness though, we hope you are keeping cool during this heatwave. It will likely remain warm this Saturday so please:

☀️Bring extra water
☀️Think twice about that PB
☀️Look out for others
☀️Top tip - camel pack with ice cubes!

Be kind to yourselves and each other 😊

PS - thanks to Danny for his Vlog: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zKD_Zwq7s1I&feature=youtu.be

Mile End parkrun Run Report

Event #666 – 25 April 2026

It was a pleasure to join the Mile End parkrun today. Why did I make the trip from Wi******er? Well, it was London Marathon weekend and – along with many other marathon participants – I wanted to take the opportunity to take in a London-based parkrun. Based on their previous years’ experience of ‘marathon-eve-fever’, the core team rightly anticipated that there would be a big turnout, they were right to do so. There were 769 finishers which was a new record!

Richard Andrews and Andrew Harris gave the ‘first timers’ welcome briefing with Monita Garnett providing sign language support. The two-lap course though the elongated Mile End Park (alongside the Regent’s Canal) was clearly described. Although there are a series of minor undulations, overall it is a remarkably fast course.

Run Director, Alex Batts, also warmly welcomed us to event number 666. Before sending the participants on our way we joined him in thanking the 50 volunteers who were ready to cheer us along the route and clock us in at the finish. Thanks to you all for making it happen. Alex announced some of the known milestones which included Pawel Zwiernik who was celebrating completing the ‘LonDone challenge [i.e. attending all the London based parkruns within the area encompassed by the M25 motorway].

Congratulations and welcome to the parkrun family the 42 participants who completed their first ever parkrun. But, be warned, it’s addictive! Altogether there were more than 340 participants making their first visit to Mile End – astonishing!

Four participants completed their 100th parkrun milestone, two their 50th and one his 25th. Former Event Director Claire Tuffin recently ran 500 parkruns and RD Mary Burkett recently volunteered over 500 times! Congratulations to you all. Now order those celebratory parkrun milestone tops! Also, and despite the busy course, about 50 participants posted personal best times. Well done to all of you.

The first male to finish was first-timer Kevin McGrath [SM25-29] in 15:30. The first female finisher – also a ‘first timer’ – was Gracie Timmins [JW 11-14] in 20:43. Paul Martelletti [VM45-49] achieved the highest age-related grade of 86.3% by finishing in 16:33. Wow!

I feel I ought to mention Fiona Betts who was testing out her helicopter outfit which she wore in the London Marathon (in support of the charity ‘Association of Air Ambulances’). Coincidentally I happened to run alongside Fiona in the marathon for a short while. What are the chances that?!

I was especially pleased that I finished in 333rd place at event number 666! Not planned – just devilishly good luck!

I can thoroughly recommend this notably inclusive community parkrun. A final tip: it is worth combining with a visit to the adjacent ‘Ragged School Museum’.

Claire T is a Mile End parkrun legend! Last Saturday she reached 500 parkruns.

Furthermore, she has been a Run Director/Event Director for most of this time. A true inspiration to the community! Congratulations!!!
