In 2024 my hamstrings were an obvious weak point in my physique, especially compared to my quads.

After a very productive off season, there’s now a lot more meat on the hams which is great. They now look pretty balanced compared to my quads which have always been a strong point.

I’ve been working on activating them properly in the rear shots and good progress has been made there.

Mandatory evening posing practice with the wife!

More leg detail coming though here

And here!

In some ways, my 2024-26 off season provided me with another round of noob gains, not too dissimilar to when I first started lifting.

I’ve spent a bit of time analysing my physique progression between the 2 seasons and here’s some crude annotation noting the biggest areas of improvement. (In the back double bicep)

1. Back thickness. I’d massively neglected hip hinging going into 2024 and since making that a staple, this area has transformed quite dramatically. There’s a lot more density in the back now which was one of my biggest weak points in 24. The upper back is also much stronger this time around
2. Quads and hams also look a lot better from the back. A bit more sweep from the quads and more tissue on the hamstrings. We’re still working on hamstring activation for all back shots but things are constantly improving.

There are still things to refine but I’m happy that the off season appeared to be a very productive one.

Posing with the cat…7 weeks out

Prep continues to move along nicely. We’ll be approaching levels of conditioning I’ve not reached before over these coming weeks which I’m very excited about.

Weighing in sub 75kg and noticeably leaner than I was at the Southern.

My 2026 prep journey so far…

This has been a really enjoyable contest prep so far.

2 trips away, a wedding, many social occasions and just getting a good balance of bodybuilding & life.

14kg down from a peak weight of 89kg down to around 75kg currently.

Food focus as I’ve mentioned before, has been far lower than prior preps due to less food variety and a bit less emphasis on hyper-palatable options.

Joshua Condé and myself are still making tweaks to my posing to really make sure we bring the best version of myself to stage.

And my incredibly supportive wife Sarah Sydric has been so helpful during home posing practice sessions to make sure we’re activating the correct areas!

Progress is being made.

Same badminton racket, same tree in the background, same human, 24 years apart!

The photo on the left is a snapshot of how I looked after a year of training.

And it doesn’t look it, but I was obsessed!

I’d spent some time in a surplus then embarked on my first dieting phase (which was 100% not needed at the time)

I was young, hungry (literally) and excited to train.

Fast forward 24 years and honestly, not much has changed.

I still get just as excited to train as I did in the early years. Just as excited to make progress and to improve my physique.

All that’s changed is that I take a bit longer to recover these days. But as the last couple of years have shown me, huge leaps in physical development are still very much possible.
