Great course happening in north London this weekend if you can make it!

04/04/2026

Thursday night's class kicked off with a cardio heavy warm-up before we moved on to running through jiyu ippon kumite. The kids worked on timing and showing clear techniques. The adults went through various options for the upcoming shodan grading. We finished with the ever popular tag team kata!

In the adults class, we carried on with prep for the grading by going through each of the Heian katas, with those grading showing a section of bunkai each. We then finished up with working on Tekki Shodan and bunkai.

The class was immensely fun to teach with students young and older putting in solid efforts.

It was great fun teaching class on Thursday night. We began with a dynamic warm-up with some ideas courtesy of A1 Judo Club - East Ham .

We then went into a stance drill to strengthen the legs and improve transition between stances. From there, we applied that work on a kihon sequence that we also drilled on the pads.

In the adults class, for those going for their Shodan grading we began with working on the ground work drill and then moved on to bunkai for Heian Yondan.

A fun and technical class to end the week!

Next in the Heian bunkai series; the opening for Heian Nidan.

11/03/2026

A bunkai option for the opening of Heian Shodan.

29/01/2026

Another bit of bunkai from Heian Nidan, this time showing an application from the kiagi and uraken sequence ending with a takedown.

26/01/2026

Another bunkai option for the opening of Heian Nidan, keeping hold of the attacking arm this time on the outside when defending.

24/01/2026

Another bunkai variation for the opening of Heian Nidan.

23/01/2026

Demonstrating bunkai for the opening of Heian Nidan which we worked on last night in the adults class.

21/01/2026

Another in the recent Tekki Shodan series; a dynamic flow drill that can be used by both partners to repeatedly practice the sequence without stopping, drilling speed and reaction times.

Thank you to everyone who turned up to class tonight - especially the kids who showed their dedication to training despite now being on summer holidays!

In the kids class, we went over a couple of kumite drills that focused on speed and chaining techniques together to dominate the opponent. We then finished up by perfecting grading kata.

With the adults, we continued the theme that Sensei Adam started in a previous class with techniques for defence when up against a wall.

It was a really fun class to teach before I'm off on my own summer holiday!
