Hi everyone ! Social media has been full with speculation, rumours and the usual rants the last few days about the new parking charges at the marina !
So it’s now time to explain what I know is happening !
Firstly I have always been against this ! One of the main reasons I moved to Portland Marina 8 years ago was so all my customers had free parking !
The reason the marina have brought this in,is because of people abusing the parking ! Some People leave their cars there for days or even longer and are not doing anything on site !
The marina is growing and need the spaces for the people using the facilities !
So this is how it works
You drive in , the cameras log your number plate , you park and do what ever you have come to do . Before you leave you go to the machine or go on the App put your reg in and pay the amount you owe . However there are the following concessions
1. If you leave within 15 mins no charge
2. If you are visiting the cafe , pub , dive shop ( sorry don’t know about the other businesss on site ) you can get a 2 hr free parking voucher .
3. If you are out on one of the dive boats operating from the marina you can get from them , the dive shop or marina office before you leave a 50% off voucher .
The vouchers have a Bar code on which when presented to the machine reduces the charges as mentioned above !
I hope this has helped with people’s concerns if you need to know anything else make it up and post it on FB
