This is an interesting video view from behind that you don't normally see, as many videos are usually taken from the front or side, for obvious reasons.

However, the rear view video also offers a lot of information mostly to and for the practitioner in person without the distraction of the hands movements, from observing the symmetry, balances/imbalances in the overall structure, body alignments and breathing mechanics - Tun To Fao Chum and the Lohk Ging, through to stance and footwork.

Pak Mei Sifu Dave Stevens | Sunday Live Talk for the Southern Praying Mantis FB Group 17/05/2026

Back in the heavy heady lonesome days of Covid... you know, when we were all told to not socialise with anyone..!

I done a podcast type of interview with Nishan Khednah and Alex Papamichael from the Nan Tong Long (Southern Mantis) school of kung fu.

They interviewed me on my pak mei journey when I first started out all those years ago... was certainly an interesting interview and quite enjoyable.

Here's myself performing Sahp Baa Morr Kiu probably about 7yrs ago before I ventured onto working onboard the cruise ship for Rpyal Caribbean and certainly before the world doing its impression of 28 Days Later, Contagion and Outbreak and the Governments and WHO almost stopped the world from turning, due to Covid...

Anyway, I'll try and find the video of me performing this form last year at Sifu Paul Whitrod's School Anniversary and post it up on here.

Enjoy the video... shall be doing some new video's in the near future.

Performed Gow Bo Tui (9 Step Push) Pak Mei benchmark form/set/kata at Sifu Julian Dale's Kung Fu Anniversary Gathering. A week before this, I demo'd Sahp Bar Morr Kiu for Sifu Paul Whitrod's School Anniversary.

Before this, I've pretty much had a 3-4yr hiatus from demonstrating and performing Pak Mei Kung Fu so was fun getting back into the swing of things amongst many friends!

Interesting, had a online consultation this morning with a martial artist that sent me a couple of pics of his very swollen ankle including his xray which showed he had a avulsion fracture of the fibula (nasty buggers those... takes like forever to heal, believe me, I know, I had one back in the days of gymnastics).

Could only really advise that he continues with what the doctor told him to do in relation to treating it like a severe soft tissue injury (which in effect, it is...) but I'm like, if you can buy this ready made external herbal spray which you should be able to get online which will help with the healing process whilst your recuperating.... ordinarily I would have whipped into my treatment room and he'd be getting the full works mostly acupuncture and moxibustion and external herbal poultice to help speedn the process up... but alas, the restrictions currently do not allow me to treat people.

Damn, seeing the pics of his ankle and the x-ray I was like, wow... I can do so much for you it's literally frustrating.

Hey ho...

Practice vs Perfect Practice?

We've all heard the term "Practice makes perfect" and yes of course the more you practice then you'll perform perfection.

Practice to be perfect is simple... you find your perfect optimum level of where you want to be, and you work up to becoming "perfect" in that skill, technique, exercise, movement etc

BUT... there is A REAL small difference between "Practice makes perfect and Perfect practice"

Perfect Practice is ultimately a gymnastic and dance method and mindset, a way of practising various skills, drills, techniques and combinations whilst 'in the perfect position' so for instance holding your leg out in a leg extension at the o***m height that is 'perfect'. But here is the crux, each time you practice the leg extension you hold it at the perfect extension, practising this perfect position for a tad longer, a tad slower, building up your "perfect practice"

Of course, this is where ONLY having a qualified, knowledgeable and experienced teacher comes in to advise, guide and correct you in you tailored "personal perfect practice" to give you the tools in achieving and maintaining each time, your very own perfect practice.
