THIS is the whole essence of Karate right here....... this is WHY repetition is the only real key to success....

it may not be the most fun way to become great, but it IS the most effective way to become great :)

Passing on all the great benefits of martial arts to children who have such enthusiasm and excitement to learn, and who show such dedication at such young ages is the greatest job in the world.

To see them grow and blossom into intelligent focused and well mannered young kids who are venturing out of primary school and into secondary school for the first time with a confidence that I know I myself never had at that age.

Ready to face all the challenges ahead, and we know there will be many.

With their secret weapon.

that secret weapon that comes from turning up week after week class after class and never giving up when things get tough. That secret weapon of knowing you have the ability to deal with bully’s should they dare to show their faces

the ability to focus on a task and continue to solve problems until you have the answers. A skill that will be invaluable in their academic futures..

I’m so proud of every single one of them for what they have already achieved and what they are going to go onto achieve over the next years together. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Two young lads taking their very first trial class last night - did great in the warm ups - basic BK12 - break fall practice - and pad drill combinations - all before taking part in the self defence technical Class of the day “headlock escape No 1” and the first of 3 phases - the basic escape…. For first time ever on our mats and no previous experience they did amazing… they left totally excited and buzzing to do the second of their 4 trial classes of the trial package… they were a joy to have with us and I look forward to their next lesson as much as they do. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Are you serious?? You bet your life I am!!

JUNIOR MARTIAL ARTS

It’s a sad fact over the last 2 to 3 decades that many clubs and organisations have watered down (Karate) and Martial Arts in general to such an extent that it has reached and indeed is viewed by society on the same level as all the other hobbies and past times. Such as football, tennis, dance, gymnastics and the like..

But this could not be further from the truth. Martial Arts is an “art “a science - a life skill. And should be treated as such.

The level of commitment to attend sporting hobbies such as football or dance is not comparable to that of Martial Arts. The commitment required is very very different, but then again so are the benefits.

The skill required to score a penalty in a game of football. It’s not comparable to the skills obtained through Martial Arts, in which one brings a joyful result, and the other saves a life. Yes, it’s that serious. And should be taken so.

This is in no way an attempt to belittle the importance, enjoyment or skill of being proficient in a sport, but to explain how much higher a level of reward the latter is compared to the first.
Everything has its merits, but some things merits are simply far greater and the knowledge and skill obtained in these are priceless.

As I’ve said many times before, Martial Arts should not be an “either or” subject, where a choice is made between attending football or (Karate) – or attending tennis or karate….
But rather which of your hobbies and past times you wish to attend alongside Karate – as well as (Karate).

That’s how important it is .

We already know the phrase that not everything worth having is easy, but I’ll also add not everything worth having that’s important is always fun.

We do try and make our junior classes as fun as possible, but fun was never the reason. It was or never had been about enjoyment, it’s about providing invaluable tools that will accompany you for the rest of your life. And it’s a serious matter.

So if we work so hard to disguise the repetition And add lots of extra fun this is due to a lot of hard work on our part and a lot of effort and free time given up by the instructors.

Just to give you an idea, our junior classes never had a game period, for all the years I’ve been teaching they never had a game period. This was introduced as an extra fun element, because our students train very physically and mentally hard during our junior sessions, something that you generally will not find anywhere else within this age group.

We push our students to learn realistic effective Self defence applications, and because they study so hard we reward them with some playtime at the end. This was added as a reward. But it’s something that we never did because Martial Arts should be the reward itself. Yes, that sounds harsh but it’s true.

So all I ask is the next time you sit there wondering if you can justify the time for your kids to train in a Martial art, ask yourself if you can really justify NOT finding the time.

Kids will want to come and go MORE THAN ONCE because things are hard, However you must … And I repeat you must stand firm and push them through these periods.

I see many parents that become very tough and very demanding when it comes to schoolwork and exams, and rightly so. Because you can see the importance of what these results and these skills that they acquire through school, will do for their future life. However, I often see the exact opposite when it comes to martial art training? Letting kids give up for a multitude of silly reasons that would not be accepted in any other scenario

Life-saving skills and that your child can have a confident and safe peaceful life dimply doesn’t seem to hold the same importance?

Maybe it’s because the thought being in real danger is always unrealistic until it actually happens.

But We have taught many people over the years that have ended up having to use their skills at various ages and every single one of them have told us how effective it had worked. And how lucky they thought they were to have those skills when called upon.

So please take my advice.

Your child should train Martial Arts as often as possible and for as long as possible (it should actually be a life long journey) and in addition to this they should learn to swim, not only swim but swim very very well, in fact swim to the extent that they could save their own life if dropped into water in full clothing.

These are the two most important skills any person should ever possess. Because missing a penalty in football is frustrating…. drowning or being attacked and left maimed or worse is a dam sight more than just disappointing

tha could possibly be the end.

Have a great day.

See you on the mats.

Another excellent junior class today with some real good effort on the warmup drills and all the physical aspect of the class. We even went over the finer points of the Forward and backward roll being exactly the same move in different directions almost like rewinding some video footage.

We moved onto the technical class which was when someone grabs both of your arms controlling your upper body and posture and you have very little chance to move forward or backwards. The way to deal with this is to shift your angle and blade yourself as you control one side and reach over the other into a stepping takedown. After a few teething problems, everyone was doing great , and even adding the extra safety method of hooking behind the head so you could not allow your partner to fall in the way that the head may hit the floor brilliant work.

Very good work from our two newest young ladies who are on their trial, which is Lyla and Nea who did amazing.

A good few tags went out today so very well done too Chloe, Darcy Nori, Latifah and Selena who all receive the latest progression tags today

And huge congratulations goes to Aziz who has completed over 50 classes now and after a short assessment was successfully awarded his JSD level two – yellow/white belt. Well done young man you are really doing great stuff as all your group who came to us at the same time you’ve all been a breath of fresh air And I love teaching you all.

** On a personal note, I will be flying to Europe on Saturday as I have some business to attend to but I should be back soon, so please work hard in my absence because I am constantly in touch with the instructors who inform me of how well (and in some cases not well ) everyone is doing.

Our great instructor team will see you as usual on the weekend.

Junior Defence

Our "Junior Self Defence Programme" enables kids of all abilities between the ages of 8 - 13 to learn realistic applicable self defence and safety methods, blending both "Striking & Non Striking" control and escape strategies, incorporating: risk management, distance management, clinch control, punch protection, takedowns & throwing techniques by unbalancing though leverage against all possible scenarios that can occur both in the school and public environment - this programme was designed to allow a student to negate all attacks from the initial attack to the controlled and safe conclusion in a non aggressive manner.

Unlike many Kids Martial arts classes, that teach children a watered down version of Adult martial arts, that would be practically impossible for them to learn or use, let alone need. our programme works on the assumption that should a child be attacked (bullied) it will be from another child either in their own age bracket or at least close to it, therefore these techniques are both practical and Usable.

The additional Striking & Kicking combinations are predominately trained in isolation (non partner work) alongside the non striking programme, by using pad drills on the striking and kicking pads. these are trained now as a foundation in preparation for later training (14+) when the striking and kicking arts come more to prevalence.. However in addition there are controlled sparring sessions that enables the kids to learn correct distance and timing of the techniques.

Parents that have enrolled their children into the programme have reported back on the great benefits to their kids, such as renewed confidence, self discipline and focus. not to mention the extra fitness and fun in having a new group of friends.

Im not ashamed to say that, although not 100% of the techniques found within our JSD - Junior Self defence programme were invented from scratch by myself, but the order and structure of the curriculum and the flow of progression is totally 100% our own, and i truly believe you will be very hard pushed to find anywhere a Junior system that covers the most valuable lessons and principles of training and indeed life skills, that this system has in the way that ours does..

providing all junior students with everything they would ever need to develop into not only a very accomplished adult martial artist, but also the invaluable knowledge and skills they need NOW at this young age to help combat the threat of peer bullying and to build the character to help them through these early years, enabling them to have a fun and safe childhood, both in the public and school environment.

you owe it to YOUR child to provide these tools "now", so they can continue to develop on their own in the future... can you afford to do it?? more like can you afford not too!!!

If you feel as strongly about your childs future as we do, then lets work together.....
drop us a line though our contact page and lets get you booked into your 2 FREE CLASS trial..

there is no obligation to join after the trial, so you have NOTHING to loose, but EVERYTHING to gain
