“I don’t know how I pulled it off.

I honestly don’t know how I pulled it off.”

I have heard this from headteachers more times than I can count.

Not in a staff meeting.

Not in a performance review.

In private.

Quietly.

After they have already dealt with the grievance, the governor, the staff member who is barely holding on, and the parent at the door.

They pulled it off because that is what headteachers do.

They absorb it.

They manage it.

They keep moving.

But nobody checks on the person at the top.

“There are so many things when you go into headship. You do not know. And nobody told you.”
SAID ONE HEADTEACHER, IN A PRIVATE SESSION

That gap: between what you were prepared for and what you are actually carrying, is exactly where I work.

With the real conversation: the one you cannot have with your deputy, your governor, or your partner at home.

I am a former headteacher.

I know what this feels like from the inside.

And I know what changes when you finally have somewhere to put things down.

If you are a headteacher who is doing the job well from the outside, and carrying more than anyone knows on the inside: send me a message.

Nobody needs to know.

September promotions in schools are coming.

Will your name be in the room?

Every week, I speak to teachers who are:

✔ delivering results
✔ leading teams
✔ taking on responsibility

…and still being overlooked for leadership opportunities.

🧠 Not because they are not ready.

💡 But because they have not been shown how to position their leadership, so that it is recognised.

That is exactly why I am running this session.

🎓 Free 45-minute masterclass.

Most workplace conflict starts long before the disagreement...

It usually begins with a quiet thought like: “they should have known better” or “that was obvious.”

In education settings especially, I see this constantly.

Highly capable people talking past each other, not because they disagree on outcomes, but because they approach work differently.

One person wants clarity first.

Another wants discussion.

Another wants action now.

None of them are wrong.

They are just operating from different default settings.

What often gets missed in leadership conversations is this: conflict is rarely about personality clashes. It is about untranslated communication styles.

When leaders understand their own behavioural patterns first, two things tend to happen: reactions slow down and assumptions reduce. From there, teams stop labelling behaviours as “difficult” and start recognising patterns instead.

I have seen this play out in schools and organisations across very different cultures. Once leaders adjust how they communicate, tensions drop without any formal intervention.

No big initiative.

No policy rewrite.

Just better awareness.

I am curious, especially from those in leadership roles: what communication behaviour causes the most friction in your team right now?

Leadership is not about the title. It is about the weight you are willing to carry.

The pressure.
The responsibility.
The hard conversations.
The decisions no one else wants to make.

Real leaders carry it so others can grow. They stay steady so the team feels safe. They move first so others can move with confidence. 🚀

If you feel the weight, it means you care. And that is where real leadership begins.

Leadership is measured by impact, not intention...

“Success isn't about how much money you make; it's about the difference you make in people’s lives.” - Michelle Obama

This quote raises an important question for anyone in a leadership role:

What do people say about you when you leave the room?

And perhaps more importantly, what do you hope they say?

The leaders we admire most are rarely remembered for being the busiest.

They are remembered for being purposeful.

They bring clarity to their teams, prioritise effectively, and ensure that everyone understands not only what needs to be done, but why it matters.

In education, strong leadership creates environments where people feel valued, aligned with the vision, and confident in their role.

When this happens, teams do not simply function.

They thrive.

At SJ Educoach, we work with leaders who want to move beyond good intentions and translate their vision into consistent, meaningful action. Leadership growth begins with reflection, structure, and the willingness to be intentional about impact.

📈 Inspirational leadership is not about position...

It is about influence.

Consider the leaders who have shaped you most in your professional journey.

It is rarely their job title that stands out.

More often, it is their clarity of vision, their consistency of values, and their ability to create an environment in which others felt trusted, capable, and motivated to grow.

In education, truly inspirational leaders do more than manage systems and outcomes. They invest in people. They empower teams, develop confidence, and cultivate cultures where excellence is sustainable rather than forced.

At SJ Educoach, we believe effective leadership begins with reflection and intention.

Understanding how you lead, why you lead in that way, and the impact your leadership has on others is fundamental to long term success 🚀

Headteachers. Executive Headteachers.

There’s a unique weight that comes with leading a whole school community. Not just outcomes or inspections, but the responsibility beneath it all.

Knowing your tone shapes culture. Knowing one decision can affect hundreds of families. Holding your staff steady while absorbing pressure from every direction.

What’s often unseen is that you’re rarely holding one decision, you’re holding many at once, with no obvious place to put them down.

The thinking gets postponed.

The processing gets squeezed between meetings.

The weight becomes normal.

But, you don’t need to be in crisis to need space to think. Strong leadership is about early clarity, not late rescue.

A pause for today ✍🏾
Finish this sentence without editing it: “The decisions and pressures I’m currently carrying are…”

Clarity isn’t indulgent, it’s preventative leadership care.

2026 won’t magically fix the overwhelm you’re carrying,
but you can!

If you’ve been waiting for the right moment to change your life and leadership… this is it.

Many leaders say the same thing every year:

“I want next year to feel different… calmer… clearer… more me.”

But here’s the truth that I’ve learned after coaching hundreds of leaders:

✅ Your career changes when you change.

✅ Your team shifts when you shift.

✅ And your life opens up when you finally give yourself permission to be supported.

So today, for seven days only, I’m opening the doors to my Black Friday leadership & life coaching offers.

Not “quick hacks”.

But genuine support, at discount prices, to help you build a better personal + professional life in 2026.

And I’ve made everything simple to find.

👇 See the link in bio for all the offers, or comment ‘BLACK FRIDAY’ and we will send you the offers personally!

If you’ve been feeling stretched thin, overwhelmed, or quietly doubting yourself…

These offers were created with you in mind.

Seven days.

Seven ways, to step into the leader you know you can be.

🌟 Sunday Reflection:

Can Your Organisation Run Without You?

So this week I was ill: coughing, spluttering, and at one point even trying to convince myself that a Kango was not actually near my head.

😷 In my early days as a headteacher, the thought of being absent from school was one of my worst nightmares.

I worried that standards would slip, decisions would stall, and even the basics such as morning greetings would lose their warmth and consistency.

✨ But I learned very quickly that effective leadership is never about being indispensable.

It is about building strong systems and a healthy culture so that high standards continue whether you are present or not.

🌱 This is not just true for schools.

It applies to organisations, companies, supermarkets...

If success depends on one person being there every day, then the systems are too fragile.

When culture is strong and expectations are clear, people know exactly how to carry on.

And they do.

📝 So, my reflection task for you this week is this:

Take a moment to imagine being away from your organisation tomorrow.

What would happen in your absence?

Would the systems and culture you have created sustain the standards you expect, or would everything pause until your return?

One way to begin creating systems is to identify one area of your work where too much depends on you.

Write down the process in three simple steps, then delegate or share it with someone in your team.

By making even one task repeatable without your presence, you begin to build the consistency and culture that protects your organisation in your absence.

👇 Share one system you have in place that helps your team thrive without you.
