Saturday was our first open water session for the current BSAC Ocean Diver course. Blessed with some fab weather and a rather quiet Wraysbury, it was a fun day. Our Ocean Diver trainees - Amy, Cristina, and Juexi - did brilliantly and completed the skills for the first two dives.

This weekend the club travelled back to Dorset for two days of diving and a fantastic sunset BBQ. Despite some afternoon mist on Saturday, we dived the Hartlepool and Enecuri wrecks, with some lovely critters on show: sea hares, congers, shrimps, spider crabs, and nudibranchs. We came across a couple of thornback rays on Sunday's scalloping drift dive, and what a haul of scallops! Such a great trip.

How do you give Basic Life Support (BLS) to a casualty on a small boat? What do you do if there’s two causalities? Mia, Laura and Dave, our BSAC Advanced Diver (AD) trainees, spent the weekend practicing their rescue skills. Led by instructors Zoé and Mark, the skills included simulated rescues from 20m, recovering the casualties to the boat, giving oxygen, chest compressions and defibrillation, all whilst keeping in contact the emergency services. Our ADs demonstrated their excellent rescue skills and shows the importance the club places on diving safety. Well done to everyone involved!

This bank holiday weekend we took out the club's boat to dive around Dorset's coastline. The weather was perfect, the visibility great, and the dining sublime (that poached sea bass…).

Diving with a club is so much fun!

Although not the best weather for May, our intrepid (aren’t they always intrepid?) Ocean Diver trainees had a good three days for their Wraysbury Lake open water dives. Many congratulations to Mo, Finn, Costa and Harry who completed all their skills and are now fully qualified!

After saying goodbye to the dive centre staff, who were amazing, we spent the last day enjoying Alicante’s sights (and tastes).

The Islas Hormigas marine reserve is absolutely brimming with fish. Currents bring nutrients and food to the area, and riding those currents one can often see large numbers of barracuda. This is one of the batteries of barracuda we saw this last week. (Yep, the collective noun for barracuda is “battery”!)
