A glorious early summer’s day for our Adventure Nordic Walk in Surrey! Warmer than expected sunshine, a gentle breeze and lovely green fields and woodlands galore. Packed lunches in the sunshine at Reigate Heath, two pub stops too, and a rural bus 🚌 adventure along winding roads for trains home to boot! All in all a fabulous day out!

A glorious Adventure Nordic Walk to Epsom & Ashtead Commons with this lovely lot 🤗 It turned into such a beautiful day with some warm sunny intervals and the woods kept us sheltered from the somewhat cold winds. We had picnic lunch at a lovely clearing with ancient oak trees and enjoyed spotting the signs of spring all around us. A fantastic day out and a lovely pub stop at the end too! Already looking forward to the next walk - date TBC!

Bitterly cold 🥶 & super windy Nordic Walk today - a good reminder that it is still only March - so we had to avoid the top of Hilly Fields & seek shelter at the stone circles for our stretches. Some of us still braved the breeze to sit around the logs for coffee after, but safe to say, nobody fancied lingering for too long today!

We woke up to blue skies - finally!! - yesterday morning, and were out early as we had a bit of long day of adventuring ahead of us. We got taxis out to the trail head, and started our day off with a 4.5km Nordic Walk to cafe to enjoy our packed lunches, some lovely ‘munkki’ as well as pancakes with cloudberry jam by the fire.
Due to the unseasonably warm temperatures this week, the trails were fairly soft under foot and few of us had already had moments of sinking mid-calf into the snow before lunch, but as we were about to continue our walk to climb up to the summit of Kätkä fell, we were told by the trail manager that the trail was no longer passable on foot. Luckily for us, we had come prepared, and all had our snowshoes with us and were given the go ahead to continue up the trail (probably some of the last people to get to do so this season). We got a lovely send off by Eija at the cafe, and then began the challenging climb up the times steep trail.
The higher we climbed the more amazing the views got, and we couldn’t have asked for a better day for our final day in Lapland. We could see far into the distance with other fells shining bright white in the horizon, the pine forests and lakes extending as far as eye could see.
Towards the summit the winds picked up and the temperatures dropped considerably, so when we made it to the summit at 505metres we didn’t linger for too long - just enough time for some photos and to take in the view - and then began our descend. Having the snowshoes made quick work of it as we were not sinking into the snow nor slipping on the at times icy, at times slushy trail.
We were all exhausted but exhilarated after our adventure high up on the fell, and piled into the Riihi cafe for a quick thirst-quenching drink or two, with much hilarity & laughter looking through some photos and recounting moments of our day, before taxis back home for sauna. We finished our final evening with a gondola ride up and a lovely meal out at Spiella overlooking the village.

We woke up to another misty & murky morning in Levi but were up & out fairly early as we had a longer walk planned around the fell with my dad joining us too. As we gradually made our way through the tall pine forest, a beautiful eerie mist was lingering amongst the trees. The higher up we climbed the more sparse the trees & vegetation, and instead of a damp mist, we now had beautiful frost blanketing the landscape & the old gnarled pine trees.
Although the weather this week hasn’t been as cold as you’d normally expect for this time of year, and we have had a few days of misty & murky weather, Lapland is still treating us to stunning views and fabulous walking!
After the walk some of the group headed out skiing whilst some relaxed in the warmth of the chalet & sauna, and we finished the day with another incredible home cooked meal of salmon soup.
