Great work yesterday getting the growing space ready for the Summer Sizzler .
We have our confirmed line up of artists,meanwhile here are some pictures of a reminder of last years event.

The summer sizzler is fast approaching.
The bands are all booked and everything is slotting into place .
This is a shoutout for volunteers over the next couple of Saturdays to prepare the growing space for the event.
Jobs include cutting grass ,strimming,cutting back ,weeding and generally tidying up .
Meet at the growing space from 10am -1pm .
The pop up cafe will also be open.
We look forward to seeing you.

SALMA'S SCYTHING LESSON HELPS RESTORE AMENITY GRASS

Last year we cleared brambles between an oak tree and a weeping willow in the Wilmer Way end of the park, then re-seeded. We are restoring short amenity grass here - it's a pleasant spot for picnics, especially in hot weather.

By late May the new grass was long and needed mowing, and since regular volunteer Salma wanted to learn how to use a scythe, it was a great opportunity to do both.

After the obligatory ‘grim reaper’ photo, Salma got started, learning how to sweep the blade round smoothly just touching the ground. She picked it up quickly and we moved on to cutting the longer stuff. Every few minutes you need to clean the blade with a bunch of grass and sharpen it with a stone.

Scything is superb fun once you get the hang of it, so we took turns and soon finished the job. We’ll scythe the grass once more before asking the Council to mow through here in future.

WE NEED YOUR HELP

Good morning Arnos Parker’s
Great turnout from all the volunteers yesterday despite the sweltering heat .
A big shoutout to Paul who put a big shift in cutting the grass up on Coronation Ave ,along the brook and some scrub in the growing space .John and Sean dismantled an encampment and created some sight lines .
As ever there is always some litter picking to do so a big thanks to Wendy .
Matt and Salma carried out some sything.
The rest of the volunteers primarily spent their time in the growing space getting the area ready for the Summer Sizzler event on the 4thJuly.

We’re open! Come and join us for a tea or coffee or cool drink. We’re here until 1pm and we have shade!

Back by popular demand the pop up cafe will be open this Saturday 10-1pm
It’s also our groundforce day and we would welcome volunteers whatever your ability to help in the growing space or out in the park.
