Wow. It has been a while since I last wrote anything for this journal. We all know what a turbulent 18 months it has been, so I wont say too much about it other than a lot has changed. I now no longer work in gyms; I work behind a computer screen, although hopefully not […]

Well 2020 didn’t exactly workout how we expected did it? ... Through all the stress and anxiety the last 12 months has caused me personally, from worrying about when I could fly and see my sons again to whether I could keep working and how I might do that and not being able to play sport in the way I would want. There have been some massive highlights, the completion of my first year of my MRes , time in France (thanks ), extended time with my boys in Germany and in the UK, video workouts with , involvement with basketball and all of my clients who have stuck with me and adapted as we go. and my Dad, my sister and my brother who have been there for me at every turn, this has bought me closer to them without a doubt. But most of all , thank you for everything you do and the support you give me, you know what you’ve done for me. You are an absolute angel ♥️

Since we have been in lockdown and asked to work from home where possible I have had a scarily high number of my clients complain to me about neck and upper back pain. Most likely the trapezius muscle.
A common theme is they are all work in an office of some kind. Whilst at their companies they’ll have ergonomic desks, chairs and screen ups whilst using up to 4 screens at once. However now they are asked to do the same work from a small laptop screen, causing extremely poor posture.
5 tips for improving posture whilst working from home.
1️⃣ Use a cushion in the base of your spine for lumbar support. Forcing your lumbar spine to be straight will enforce the rest of you to be nice and tall.
2️⃣ Regularly vary the height of your computer screen. If you have to look down at your screen constantly your head will drop and shoulders will become rounded.
3️⃣ Get up walk and lay down flat as much as possible. If you have calls to make or have scheduled breaks stand up and walk around, even better lay flat on your back on a hard surface. Allow your spine to ‘reset’.
4️⃣ Stretch. Regular stretching will relieve tension in the trapezius muscles.
5️⃣ Do some weight training. Promoting blood flow will also relieve tension and ensure the muscles in the neck/upper back are strong and balanced will promote good posture.
