12 weeks ago, I got news every athlete dreads: a mandatory pause on running, strict rehab, and zero axial loading to give my body the time it actually needed to heal. 🚫🏃♂️
A severe L4/L5 prolapse and a large haematoma triggered a massive sciatica episode right before the Helsinki Half at the beginning of June, leaving me barely able to walk for over two weeks.
BUT here’s the catch: Rehab isn’t a pause button, it’s a redesign.
Instead of focusing on what I couldn’t do, I shifted my mindset and adapted the training:
• Swapped spine-loading movements for targeted, low-impact stability work
• Built upper body, core, and non-axial strength like never before
• Dialled in the mobility and motor control I used to skip
On Thursday, the consultant officially gave me the green light! 🟢
I didn’t just pass the time, I built a stronger foundation, developed a whole new level of gratitude for every single stride, and came back better than before.
A MASSIVE thank you to and for the INCREDIBLE support since January. Your work has kept me going and pain-free for almost 9 months!
Now, time to get back to work. 👟🔥
Cardiff Half here I come 😤
