“People think a box squat is just a lazy squat with a chair… it’s not.
This is a regular barbell squat.
You stay moving the whole time, bounce out of the bottom, and it hits your quads hard.
Great for building legs, strength, athleticism… and humbling your ego.
Now THIS is a box squat.
Instead of bouncing up, you sit back onto the box, pause, then explode up.
That pause kills momentum, so your glutes and hamstrings have to do way more work.
Box squats are amazing for:
power,
posterior chain strength,
and teaching people how to actually use their hips instead of turning every squat into a knee funeral.
Regular squat:
more athletic,
more quad-focused,
more mobility required.
Box squat:
more controlled,
more explosive,
more posterior-chain dominant.
Neither is better.
They just train different things.
So if your goal is tree-trunk quads — squat.
If your goal is power and hip strength — box squat.
Or… be smart and use both.”
