Unofficial club for Hultians wanting to climb in London!

Building One+ index 01/10/2018

Hey everybody! Some of you may/may not know me, but my name is Julian and I was the president of the Hult climbing club. Due to logistical reasons, I decided not to make the club official but rather an unofficial Facebook group for casual and experienced climbers to meet up and have fun. So yeah, welcome!

There are two forms of indoor climbing we will do (outdoor is a whole other matter, speak to me personally about it later) bouldering and rope climbing. Rope climbing is pretty self-explanatory but bouldering is what I really enjoy - maximum 5 meter walls, no rope, just pure strength & technique! For some reason though, most climbing facilities in central London only do bouldering, so this is what I’ll be doing mostly.

So this page will be mostly for people who enjoy climbing to let other people know they are down to climb. Feel free to post or comment as long as it isn’t spam or harassment.

My favourite climbing spot is the Arch Climbing Wall - The Biscuit (now renamed to Building One), found here https://www.archclimbingwall.com/buildingonecentre . However, this place does require everybody to have basic knowledge of bouldering and to do an introductory lesson, which isn’t provided in Building One but rather in the ‘North Centre’, found here https://www.archclimbingwall.com/northcentre . But North Centre is 1 hour away from Hult and Building One is around 20 minutes. So alternatively we can go for the first time to this place called Vauxeast, which doesn’t require lessons to start bouldering but does give you a simple youtube video to understand the basics of bouldering. https://www.vauxeast.co.uk/lessons/

FYI Bouldering is quite tough and although it isn’t dangerous, you have to be careful. So it’s up to you, read up on the sport before you join to gain some confidence :)

In conclusion: Building One is my go-to bouldering spot on Saturdays due to it being closer to Hult than the rest. But to join you have to try bouldering at least once through a intro lesson or at Vauxeast.

This page is for people to have fun, no obligations, I just wanted a hub for people to meet like-minded climbers and climb for a couple of hours in the weekend. I will be going this weekend either to Building One or Vauxeast. I’m fine with Vauxeast if some starters want to go there and gain some experience with me. If you want to gain experience through a lesson and not on your own by watching a video, book a lesson with the ‘North Centre’ on the link I put above. I believe its 20£ and its very valuable tips, plus you get the rest of the day free climbing at that site so really you only pay (12£?) for the lesson.

Oh and if you find a non-bouldering, rope climbing place to go to if you don’t want to do bouldering, go ahead and suggest it!

See you all around!
