They tell you to 'soak it all up' when you're on maternity leave, you only get this short time together, they grow up so fast, only 18 summers together....

That's kinda BS right?

OK, yes yes, there are lots of very beautiful moments shared and being able to see your sweet children grow and the love you feel for them is joyous. But sometimes, this time on maternity leave or solo-parenting is really bloody hard.

There's so much conflicting information out there telling you what you should or shouldn't be doing, there's no village to help, there's all these expectations for mama to bounce back and the house to be kept under control, and we mustn't dare complain because how LUCKY are we to have the privilege of children and family?

It is all relative, AND your pain is valid. ❤️‍🩹

Going from 1 baby to 2 has shifted me in ways I couldn't imagine. There is a mixture of elation and struggle, day to day. It seems right now I'm juggling some really icky feelings about how I'm showing up for my kids and how I am presenting myself. Too much screen time, too many biscuits...

I'm reminding myself that I must be kinder. I am keeping these sweet humans alive and well. They have endless love and support from their family. I am doing my best in these circumstances, and that it is OKAY and there is no shame to be finding it hard too. 💕

From one mama to another, this s**t is hard.

You are giving your best every day, and your kids will love you for this.
Take care of yourself, take the breaks you need, eat all the Mars bars (guilty), and talk about your struggles with someone who gets it.

In the words of coco's mum from Bluey, "you're doing great".
