FREE MASTERCLASS FOR COUNSELLORS & THERAPISTS
Beyond the Therapy Room
How counsellors can create additional income
You didn’t train for years, gain experience, and build all that knowledge just to feel limited by how many clients you can see in a week.
There are other ways to use your skills, knowledge and experience to:
• Run workshops
• Create courses
• Write a book
• Create resources
• Build a membership or community
• Add additional income streams
And I’m going to show you how.
I’m running a FREE 45-minute masterclass where I’ll be teaching how counsellors and therapists can start going beyond the therapy room and turn their expertise into something that creates additional income and helps more people.
Friday 24th April
7pm (Recording available)

Long weekend reflection 🌿
For those of us in the UK, this long weekend can be one of two things:
Switching off and resting…
Or finally having a bit of space to think.
When you step back from the therapy room for a moment, you sometimes get a clearer view of where you are and where you might want to go next.
Maybe you’re happy focusing on your 1:1 work.
Maybe you’re thinking about running workshops.
Maybe there’s a book, a course, a membership, or a resource you’ve been thinking about creating for a long time.
Maybe you just know you want something more or different alongside the therapy room.
Long weekends are sometimes where new ideas quietly begin.
So the question this weekend is simple:
Are you switching off, reflecting, or starting something new?

Tuesday Tip for Therapists Who Want Income Beyond 1:1
If you only offer 1:1 sessions, your income will always be limited by your time.
There are only so many hours in the week, and burnout is real in this profession.
This week’s tip:
Start paying attention to what you repeat to clients every week.
The things you explain over and over again are not just “session content” — they could be:
• A workshop
• A webinar
• A workbook or PDF
• A support group
• A course
• Workplace training
• A membership
If you’ve said something to 20 clients, it probably shouldn’t only exist in your therapy room.
Now I want to hear from you:
What’s one thing you often repeat to clients that could become a workshop or resource?

(You might give someone else their next income idea.)
Save this post to remind yourself that your skills don’t have to be limited to the therapy room 💚

✨ 2 Years of Beyond the Therapy Room! ✨
I can’t quite believe I’m writing this, but today marks 2 years of Beyond the Therapy Room – Counsellor Income & Growth (previously The Counsellor’s Side Hustle Hub).
What started as a small idea has grown into an amazing community of 11,400 counsellors in the Facebook group 🤯 Thank you for being part of this space, for supporting each other, sharing ideas, and growing together beyond the therapy room.
I only opened this Instagram last year, but it’s already growing strong and I’m so glad so many of you are here too 💚
If you’re not in the Facebook community yet, the link to join is in my Linktree and in my stories 🔗
Here’s to more growth, more opportunities, and continuing to support counsellors to build income and opportunities beyond the therapy room 🌱

What If Counsellors Had a Business Model?
Most counsellors are trained to think about client work not about building a business model.
And yet many of us eventually run into the same challenge:
Our income is tied almost entirely to 1:1 sessions.
But what if counselling careers didn’t have to work that way?
More and more therapists are starting to build multiple income streams alongside their client work, not to replace therapy, but to create more stability, flexibility, and reach.
For example, counsellors can build income through:
1️⃣ Therapy work
The heart of what we do supporting clients directly in the counselling room.
2️⃣ Teaching or training
Sharing knowledge, approaches, or specialist skills with other professionals.
3️⃣ Digital resources or courses
Creating materials that can support more people beyond the limits of session hours.
It’s not about working more.
It’s about working differently.
Over the next few days I’ll be sharing more about this approach and why it’s becoming an important conversation in the counselling world.
And I’m also excited to say that The CDC Lounge is open (with a founding member rate) a space designed for counsellors who want more stability, support, and possibilities in their careers.

Many counsellors quietly struggle with the financial realities of the profession.
We love the work.
But loving the work doesn’t remove the pressure of bills, cancellations, and emotional load.
You’re not the only one thinking about this.
Over the next couple of weeks I’m going to share ideas and possibilities for counsellors who want more stability without leaving the profession they care about.
Which one resonated with you most?

Branding isn’t just a “nice to have” as a counsellor… it’s how people choose you 💚
It’s what helps you stand out, build trust, and clearly communicate who you help, both inside and beyond the therapy room.
Tomorrow (Friday 20th March) inside the CDC Lounge, I’m going deeper into this ✨
→ How to create a brand that actually reflects you
→ How to attract the right clients
→ How to stop blending in online
If you’ve ever struggled to explain what makes you different… this is for you.
There are only 6 founding member spaces left ⚡
Once they’re gone, they’re gone.
Founding members lock in the lower rate for the entire duration of their membership, so if you’ve been thinking about joining, now’s the time.

3 Reasons Counselling Income Can Feel Capped
Many counsellors love the work… but still feel financially stretched.
Here’s why 😊
1️⃣ Income is tied to hours worked
In 1:1 practice, your earning potential is directly linked to your availability.
There are only so many sessions you can hold each week without risking burnout.
2️⃣ The emotional load is high
Back-to-back client work requires deep presence, regulation, and energy.
Even when sessions go well, the emotional labour adds up… and recovery time isn’t always protected.
3️⃣ Cancellations impact income
When sessions cancel or move, income can drop instantly.
Relying solely on session fees can create unpredictability, especially with rising living costs.
None of this means you’re doing anything wrong.
It’s simply the structure of the model.
✨ That’s why many counsellors start exploring additional income streams—
training, courses, supervision, or other ways to diversify.
Not to replace therapy…
but to create more stability alongside it.
Imagine if some of your income didn’t rely entirely on 1:1 sessions 💚
What would that change for you?
