Remember breath is energy. Taking in more breath is charging, increasing vitality and aliveness. Letting out breath is discharging, it facilitates the release of tension, stress and anything else we want to get out of our body systems.
Think about it when doing breathwork, you are not merely inhaling oxygen and exhaling carbon dioxide, you are also regulating your general state and your nervous system.
In yoga, breath awareness is essentially awareness of the vital life force energy (Prana) that permeates the whole universe, animating all living beings and powering physical, mental and energetic activity. The breathing techniques are the practical ways with which we cultivate, harness and balance this energetic force and vitality in our physical body.
Yoga also teaches us how to focus our attention on our breathing in a way that allows us to strengthen our sentient awareness of the infinite energetic potential of Prana.

Yoga stimulates our conscious awareness and our ability to reflect on our world, our societal norms, our lifestyle and our connection to Earth and to all that is. One thing that is worth reflecting on, which has a massive impact on our planet is our consumerism lifestyle.
We live in a consumerism society. We live to consume which comes with its own contradicting effect is that we buy and we don't even consume. We just buy. This is the ultimate peak of the consumerism lifestyle. There's only that much we can consume so what is left is an addiction to purchasing and owning something even if we are not going to consume it. This is fulfilling capitalism. Pouring money into businesses that constantly need to grow. The end consuming doesn't matter much. What really matters is making profit and increase revenue. The only thing that matters is that you buy, whether you consume it or not. And so what happens next is increase of waste. We buy things that we don't really need and we don't end up using or consuming and as a result more waste is generated which we don't have capacity to handle.
Lavish lifestyle, excessive consumerism, excessive waste. Irresponsible capitalism. All have culminated in the global mess that we experience today and which contributes to climate change and affects the health of our planet and all living beings.
Reduce consumption. Stop buying things that you don't need it. Consume and buy from ethical businesses. Support local businesses. You know what is good for our planet and what is harmful so take initiative and take positive action in your daily life. Don't wait for someone to show you the way. Don't wait for policies to change. You know the way to green, environmental and ecological lifestyle so start to make your own way now and trust that millions of beings are making their way too.
