NO HUMAN IS LIMITED ✨

OTD in 2019, the great Eliud Kipchoge became the first human to run a sub-two hour marathon, crossing the line in Vienna in a ground-breaking time of 1:59:40. ⚡️

The Kenyan athlete achieved this feat at the INEOS 1:59 Challenge - a special time-trial event in which he ran with rotating pacemakers and state-of-the-art timing lasers. London Marathon Events was privileged to play a major part in delivering this event and supporting his attempt to find new limits.

Although these conditions meant Kipchoge's time couldn't be ratified as a world record because it wasn't an official race, his achievement set a new benchmark for the next generation of marathoners to aspire to.

Less than seven years on, last April's 2026 TCS London Marathon saw the dawn of a new era for marathon running as the two-hour barrier was smashed in an official race by not only the elite men's winner and his compatriot Sabastian Sawe (1:59:30), but also the runner-up Yomif Kejelcha (1:59:41) in his debut marathon. 🇰🇪

At the age of 41, Kipchoge is still out there winning marathons but now he is chasing a goal bigger than a record time- running seven marathons on seven continents to inspire the world about the power of running. 🌎

He may no longer be the fastest but he will forever be the GOAT. 🐐

In a class of her own ⚡️

The best in the world never just settle for the win. They're always pushing to hit new levels. Catherine Debrunner is a perfect example of this. 🙌

Today the four-time TCS London Marathon champion stormed to her 12th Abbott World Marathon Majors victory at the Bank of America Chicago Marathon in a new world record time of 1:33:16, lowering her own previous world record set at the 2023 Berlin Marathon by exactly one minute! 🌎

Elite mentality! ✨
