Chess will resume next Monday 25th after the half term break. Meanwhile, a puzzle. In this position, white to move: white's queen is under attack. But, if white plays correctly and looks for a tempo (which basically forces the opponent to waste another move), he can win a piece and save a queen. Tactics like this will help you to win your games. Answer next week!

How does a chess player cope with losing to stronger players? I often hear youngsters saying 'I don't want to play him/her, I know I will lose'. Here is how to deal with stronger players. The first thing you have to remember is that it is important to play stronger players. They will push you to play better and will often tell you where you went wrong in your game if you ask them. The next thing to do is to set yourself a target. So you know you are not strong enough to win, but it's still possible to win at least some of the time if you put in the effort, right? A good target to set yourself is to win one in ten games. Don't worry about the games you lose, as long as you tried your best you should not worry about the result. Try to remember what you did wrong so that you don't make the same mistakes again and again. Once you have reached your target, set yourself a new goal. Now you will try to win one in nine games. Keep pushing yourself and you might find that someday soon enough you are winning more games than you lose. It is important to have the right mindset and don't give up. Treat stronger players as an opportunity to improve your own chess skills. And remember to have fun!

FAMOUS CHESS QUOTE:
A chess game is divided into three stages: the first, when you hope you have the advantage, the second when you believe you have an advantage, and the third... when you know you're going to lose! - Tartakower
