Pressure testing matters—but only when pressure testing is actually relevant to what the dojo claims to teach.
Martial arts can have many purposes: self-defense, combat sport, physical fitness, competition, tradition, personal cultivation, discipline, movement, or simply the joy of training.
If a dojo explicitly says “we do not teach self-defense” or its primary purpose is something other than fighting, then judging it by self-defense pressure testing doesn't make sense.
But if a dojo claims to prepare students for real-world self-defense or fighting, then resistance matters.
Because a technique that works beautifully when your partner cooperates isn't necessarily a skill you can execute when someone is moving, resisting, reacting, and trying to stop you.
🥋 Pressure testing isn't about proving one martial art is superior.
It's about honestly testing whether the skills you're being taught hold up under the conditions they're supposed to work in.
Train for your goal.
Test for your goal.
