Captains’ Day at Wymeswold

This year we held our Captains’ Day, replacing our usual Presidents’ Day, and it was great to see the event so well attended.

The weather was kind to us, the bowls came first, and everyone brought along their own food to enjoy during the day.

Due to the excitement of the event, not many photos were taken — which is, of course, standard practice for our wonderful club captains. At Wymeswold, it seems the motto is very much: game first, photos second!

It was a lovely day on the green and another great example of the friendly, social spirit of the club.

Thank you to everyone who came along and helped make it such an enjoyable occasion.

Monday Team on Form

The Monday Team were in action recently against Soar Valley and came away with a resounding 7–1 victory.

It was a strong all-round performance, with everyone firing on all cylinders and contributing to an excellent result.

A great team effort and another positive result to keep the momentum going.

Thursday Men’s Team

The Thursday Men’s Team were at home on 30th July, taking on Soar Valley in what turned out to be a very successful evening for Wymeswold.

The team put in a superb performance, securing an excellent 10–0 victory overall.

One rink had a particularly impressive night, amassing a brilliant 37–3 win — a scoreline that certainly catches the eye!

It was a great result, especially considering the current playing conditions. With the severe lack of rain and grass, the green is playing very hard at the moment, with the odd surprise waiting as the wood makes its way down the rink.

Despite that, the team handled the conditions well and delivered a fantastic all-round performance.

Monday Afternoon Men’s Team

On Monday 27th July, the Men’s Afternoon Team took on Thringstone away.

The good news is that they turned up.

Unfortunately, shortly after that, things took a slightly less positive turn as the team experienced a rather crushing 8–0 defeat.

However, every cloud has a silver lining — and in this case, it came in the form of an excellent action shot of Bill demonstrating what can only be described as the perfect bowling pose.

A tough afternoon on the scoreboard, but still played in good spirit. Well done to everyone involved, and special mention to Bill for giving us the highlight of the day.

A Busy Monday on the Green

On Monday 6th July, it was great to see the green full again at Wymeswold Bowls Club, with a rearranged Coalville League fixture, coaching sessions and club competitions all taking place on the same evening.

The weather was warm but still manageable — just before the next heatwave decided to make itself known!

There was plenty happening across the green, creating a brilliant club atmosphere and showing just how active Wymeswold Bowls Club is at the moment.

The Coalville League team also had a successful evening, putting in a strong performance to beat Ashby 6–2.

Well played to everyone involved, and thank you to all those helping with coaching, competitions and keeping the club running smoothly.
