2026 is starting off with a bang. Inspiring the next generation to be better than us 💜🔥🏁

We were proud to welcome Matthew Bushnell, Chief Executive of Mary Seacole Housing Association, who didn’t just come to observe — he got involved. From playing games alongside the young people to sitting down for real conversations about goals, futures, and self-belief, Matthew embodied exactly what Beyond the Court stands for: role models who show up, listen, and inspire.

Civic Pride: Being Proud of Where You’re From

One of the most powerful moments of the session was Matthew’s talk to the group about what it means to be from Luton.

He spoke passionately about civic pride — about recognising the strength of our diverse communities and the exciting growth happening all around us. Luton isn’t just changing; it’s evolving into a place full of opportunity.

The young people heard firsthand about major developments on the horizon, including:
• The expansion of London Luton Airport
• The arrival of Universal Studios and what this could mean for jobs, tourism, and investment
• Wider regeneration that will reshape the town and create new industries

And most importantly — that these opportunities are for them.
