Macclesfield Boys Boxing Club

If any of the boxers are considering boxing for MBBC this season please can you get in touch with Kev as soon as possible. Recently the coaches have been busy arranging sparring sessions and some of these have had to be cancelled due to lack of attendance. In addition, Kev is arranging medics next Monday so please let him know if you require one.

Our head coach Kev his trying to arrange medicals so can all the boxers who wish to box next season please contact him urgently! Also we have a few people owing subs still so can these please be paid asap. Thank you

Due to the World Cup Semi Final there is just one session on Wednesday from 5.45-7pm 🥊 ⚽️

At this years Macclesfield Beer Festival we have a big weekend ahead of us as we are one of the beneficiaries from this years event - which is great for the club!

MBBC will be showing off their skills in open workouts at the beer festival (rugby club) on the Saturday from 12-6ish, therefore we need all the boxers to attend. It is also a free family day on the Saturday so please bring along your families for what promises to be a great atmosphere for all. There will be stalls, food and bands playing and hopefully good weather!

Saturday the 2nd May

We had entered 6 boxers this year in the senior and youth Championship, so with three rings in situ and around 40 bouts in each, we started our journey with bout number one in ring B!

Liam’s Barnes contest against a boxer from the Cherry Orchid gym, knowing nothing about this kid only his name (Ryan Moore) so we were apprehensive to say the least - as only good boxers enter this box cup!

Liam kept a good long range, scoring well with straight shots. Ryan struggled as Liam held the centre of ring. Ryan changed his tactics and began to push forward and work close range which Liam on the back foot, but Liam delivered some great counter punches. Liam was fantastic at range but struggled when close. Well done to Ryan on a deserved win, that was it for us on Day one but a busy day on day two with five Finals!

Sunday 3rd May

Today was going to be a long Day as weigh-in was at 8am and Five boxers in finals today over two rings A and B.

First up Gary Mandizha against another boxer from Cara boxing club (Cian Cramer). Cian was quite a bit taller than Gary but Gary was ready to rumble today and went straight to work cutting down the ring and pushing on to Cian who was struggling to get his shots off as a rangy fighter. Gary unfortunately was cut during the bout and the ref stepped in and gave Gary an eight count, calling upon the doctor again who proceeded to call an end to the bout! Gary was gutted and we were astounded for Gary as Cian was awarded the win.

Next up Sergio Tomkinson was taking on the irish heavyweight champion Samuel Elesanmi from St Mary’s boxing club Ireland. Both boxers are big hitters and Samuel was just edging the first round in a close bout, but then right near the end Samuel threw some big shots that hit home. This resulted in Sergio coming alive and instead of going down he stepped up and proceeded to lay a right backhand and a left hook on his opponent. This was an heavy handed shot resulting a knockout and a bad one that required oxygen in the ring! Samuel had oxygen on the floor but eventually made it up on to chair and then he stood up and everyone cheered knowing he was ok! A great contest and great win against a top class opponent - well done both.

Next Jordan Esso having not boxed for over two years he was a little nervous as his opponent had stopped his opponent the day before and was unbeaten in seven contests, and at 6ft 10 inches he was tall! Jordan did as he was told and took the fight to his opponent Adam Simpson from Border city abc. Jordan had him under pressure from the start catching his opponent with some real big shots! Adam just took them on the chin and carried on, these were big shots that he just sucked up showing his strength! This was a great contest that the crowd was absolutely loving, as it was actioned packed for the full three rounds. A great contest and with a unanimous decision Jordan Esso took the win and later on in the proceedings he was also awarded boxer of the championship for ring B such was the battle!

It’s such a long day that we sent Rocky home after the weigh in at 8am as it was now coming up to 5pm and we where making our way to ring A and under 85kg youth final his opponent from Retford abc was Harry Thompson. This was going to be a tough one as both lads wanted to win! This had been a cracking bout with both boxers showing great skills and endurance but Rocky had done just that little bit more and as result got the unanimous win, absolutely brilliant!

Next up and bout 32 in ring A was our very talented boxer George Oliver in the under 52.5kg final against 7 times national champion and England boxer from Rotunda abc in Liverpool (Jamie Preston). Jamie is a top level boxer so it was a big ask for George but he was feeling confident! Both boxers boxed like a game of chess, quality boxing plenty of faints and drawing each other into traps to get their shots off. Jamie had brought loads of support and come the final bell it was so hard to split them and this was evident in the split decision from the judges, with the win going to George Oliver! Great boxing and credit to both lads, a great end to the day for the Macclesfield Boys Boxing Club.

We will be at the family day at the beer festival on Saturday, with all the kids doing open workouts for the entertainment of those present Saturday is free and we would love for the comic Macclesfield to come and support us have chat and watch the talent we’ve got from the club who are all own grown from your community

Our northwest champion cadet boxer Frankee “The Tank”Massey was taking on Isaac Nicholson from Laisterdyke boxing club at this event. He was the Yorkshire champion and was lot bigger than Frankee so this was going to be a real battle! Isaac had good range and was moving well but Frankee was competitive and tried his best to land, never taking one step back! Frankee was using all his skill to try and cut the ring down and get close, but Isaac was up on his toes and neutralised every move Frankee was making. Frankee delivers some good shots and held his own throughout the contest, but Isaac just had that little bit more in each round which eventually got Isaac the win and a place in the semi finals. Taking nothing away from Frankee who was in the fight throughout and gained even more experience for next time, well done both boxers, a great bout!
