“I turn up, I don't have to think about it.”
That’s exactly what most people need.
Kate was unsure about the cost and didn’t know what to expect — but once she started, everything became simple.
Now she’s stronger, more toned, and has lost weight.
If you’ve been overthinking getting started, this is your sign.

Accountability is uncomfortable
I talked in yesterday's blog about accountability.
Something I, essentially, give my members.
As I said yesterday, accountability that stops when someone stops responding isn't accountability.
If someone wants a surface level veneer of accountability, there's countless other options out there that offer that.
Real accountability is, as the blog title says, uncomfortable.
It's asking the more difficult questions.
Questioning people's reasons for doing (or not doing certain things).
Because, whilst they are rarely "untrue" they are often not the complete barriers to progress we might see them as.
Helping someone question what they can still do when "busy" (rather than, essentially, nothing) is real accountability.
Questioning whether we have to keep doing something because we've always done it (but then often regret it) is real accountability.
Getting people to consider whether going back to what they used to do (when they gained weight and became miserable whilst doing it) to save a pound or two a day really makes sense is real accountability.
Ultimately, better answers come from better questions, not the same old questions over and over again.
I'll always be polite and nice with these conversations, of course.
But I won't just smile and nod and watch someone go back down the same path they've specifically told me they don't want to go back down.
Much love,
Jon 'Hurts So Bad Productions' Hall

Most people don’t fail because they can’t do it.
They fail because they stay stuck in their own head for too long.
Sean nearly didn’t come to RISE.
Not because he didn’t want to change.
Because he’d got himself into such a funk that sitting on the fence felt easier than taking the first step.
That’s the part nobody talks about enough.
The excuses feel safer.
Waiting feels easier.
And the longer you leave it, the bigger the whole thing feels in your mind.
But once he came through the door, what surprised him most was how friendly it was… and how easy it was to make it fit around real life.
Now, a year later, he’s lost 21 kilos — about 4 stone.
“If you’re thinking about it, you’re already halfway there… just pull the trigger.”
That line will hit home for a lot of people.
Because sometimes the hardest part isn’t the training.
It’s making the decision to stop waiting.
If this sounds like where your head’s at right now, drop a message. You’re probably closer than you think.

"I want accountability but I don't want you to hassle me"
Before people start with us one of the most common things that they express to me that they would need from me to help get them the results that they desire is "accountability".
They've joined conventional gyms before where you're given a quick induction and just left your own devices.
And the only time they ever hear from the gym is when they cancel their Direct Debit.
"Accountability" is one of the things that I'd say I'm really good at.
But, as I've mentioned before, accountability is a two-way street.
There's only so much I can do if someone is, essentially, ignoring me.
I never ask people for perfection.
Just not to go 'head in the sand'.
'Fingers in the ears'.
The equivalent of going "Nah nah nah nah, I can't hear you".
When people stop responding, I don't stop trying to give them the accountability that they requested.
I don't give up on people.
They, perhaps, give up on themselves at times.
I've had people reply with "Will you stop hassling me?"
And the answer to that is always "No".
"I won't".
Because the difference between "accountability" and "hassling" is when the person who requested accountability now refuses to be held accountable.
If I stopped contacting people / chased them up the first time they didn't reply to a message or two, what kind of accountability would that be?
If someone wants "accountability" only when things are easy and straightforward and everything's going perfectly..........
And then to be left alone when the going gets tough.........
There are plenty of other people out there who will gladly take your money for that.
That's not the way I roll.
Accountability when it's all going great isn't really accountability.
Ultimately, accountability only really has value at the point where people are starting to find it more difficult and are tempted to disengage.
And if that means I have to "hassle" them.........
To help them achieve something that they've told me is of the utmost importance to them.........
So be it!
Much love,
Jon 'The Hoff' Hall

My biggest worry was that I would not be able to finish a session. The coaches provided me alternatives, other members were motivating, and after finishing not just one, but a few sessions in a week, I have more confidence in my ability to train.

“I almost didn’t start…”
Rachel hadn’t exercised in 9 months and the thought of walking into something new felt *daunting*.
Now?
She feels energised, happier, and like herself again.
The biggest surprise?
How quickly it all came back once she took that first step.
And the best part…
A friendly, supportive group that made it easy to fit in from day one.
If you’ve been putting it off because you’re unsure, nervous, or feel out of routine… this is your sign.

What you won't RISE to
There's an expression from author James Clear that I really like.
"You don't rise to the level of your goals"
"You fall to the level of your systems"
Which I kind of think sums up a lot of the things that I talk about.
Things like planning and structure.
Creating order where there was previously disorder.
We like to think that this time will be different.
Telling ourselves "I know what I need to do, I just need to do it".
If we're approaching it in the same way as before.......
With the same level of structure, planning and systems...........
Then I'd be willing to wager that it would go the same way as it did before.
Good to start with.........
Go backwards longer term.
Einstein supposedly said "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results" (he probably didn't, but that doesn't stop it being a good quote).
So, if we're not going to RISE to the level of our goals............
If we are going to fall to the level of our systems..........
Than levelling up those systems makes sense! Comment below or send me a DM to find out more.

My biggest concern was probably having the motivation to actually get to a workout.
But after my first session at 6am on a Monday morning and how it made me feel for the rest of the day - that was all the motivation I needed. What a buzz!

It’s easy to put it off in your 50s.
You feel it in your knees.
Energy’s not the same.
Fitness starts slipping.
Paul hit that point.
Mid-50s… and knew something had to change.
So he did something about it.
“Nearly lost two stone.”
But more importantly?
His knees feel better.
He’s fitter.
Moving easier again.
And the environment made the difference — supportive, consistent, results that actually stick.
Sometimes it’s not too late… it’s just time to start.

Do you have "too much time"?
Hand up if you'd say that you have "too much time".
You know, you're sat around quite a lot twiddling your thumbs trying to think of something to do.
Anyone?
I thought not.
------------ BTW if you did put your hand up, you can put it down now -------------
We're all busy.
It's a given really.
I get it, I'm busy.
A busy business with everything that demands.
Four kids who go to schools 20 odd miles apart and have multiple extra-curricular activities.
A wife who has a full on, time consuming job.
An active social life.
So if we take it for granted that "we're busy"..........
Can we just look to do what we can under the circumstances?
Can we just look at how efficiently and effectively we plan and organise everything that we need to do?
Could we check how much time we really spend on lower value activities (there'll be others but the screen time on our phone and our Netflix account might be a good starting place)?
I'd honestly be surprised if being busy meant we couldn't do anything at all for something that we've claimed to be important for us.
We've probably just switched off to what we can do because it's less than some vague version we've told ourselves "is worth doing".
It might mean we do a "knowingly suboptimal" version that, therefore, takes longer to achieve the desired results.
But that will actually get us there much quicker than not doing anything at all.
Being too busy for the ideal version doesn't make you too busy for every version.
Much love,
Jon 'too soon' Hall
