A few words from our newest practitioner Mike 🤩🧘🏽♂️..
Hello, I'm Mike. Many of you may know me as 'the yoga guy' and you would be right on point 🌟
Originally a Swansea beach boy, I've called Maesteg home for over 6 years now and I am excited to be bringing my yoga classes back to the valley.
I have been teaching Yoga for over 7 years in multiple gyms and private studios and during that time I have been able to specialise my skills into both helping people improve their physical wellbeing and bringing awareness a little more to the mental health. Yoga has helped me in very dark moments and allowed me time to focus on the present moment. A long sufferer of Anorexia, I have been able to use Yoga to help build a better understanding and care for my body.
I also work as a Professional Dancer with over 20 years movement experience. I am additionally a qualified massage therapist, specialising in Ayurvedic Yoga Massage amongst others. I am also currently exploring my Level 3 Personal Training and will be excited to explore that journey
Movement is healing and it can provide a gateway into a better understanding of our needs so that we can live active and healthy lives as best we can.
I am excited to be bringing Yoga back to Maesteg
Class information coming very soon 🌞🌞

Our new gym floor is being built around one thing, making sure everyone in our community has a space where they can train, move and feel confident. 💪
Expect a fully fitted gym and dedicated strength floor, with state of the art equipment from Life Fitness, Cybex, Precor and other leading brands, alongside specialist adaptable equipment to support a wide range of needs and abilities.
We’ll also be bringing over the accessible equipment from our previous gym, because accessibility isn’t something we’ve suddenly added to the plan. It’s something we’ve been doing for decades.
The new floor will include:
• A full strength and resistance area
• Dedicated cardio area
• Functional training space
• Adaptable and accessible equipment
• A quieter training area for those who need a calmer environment
• Equipment and layouts designed with different mobility and support needs in mind
We’ve been doing this for over 47 years, so we know a thing or two about gyms, but more importantly, we know our community and what people actually need from their training environment.
We’re also working towards Disability Wales accessibility guidance, looking beyond simply being wheelchair accessible and considering the whole experience of using the centre.
This isn’t about creating a gym for one type of person.
It’s about creating a gym floor that everyone can belong on. ❤️
BGWC is built on 47+ years of experience, designed for the community we serve.

Hey, I’m Dione and if you're new here and wondering what it is my role is 👋🏼🤸🏾♀️
I’m the CEO of BGWC, where I lead the organisation’s wider vision, development and delivery, alongside overseeing our therapeutic interventions, trauma-informed practice and mental health pathways.
I’m also the National Mental Health Lead for BoxWise, supporting the emotional and mental wellbeing framework behind programmes delivered across the country, and I lead our NHS referral pathway, helping shape how children and young people are supported through movement, therapeutic intervention and early mental health support.
And although you might not see me posting training videos every day, the gym and fighting world has been part of my life since birth. I was brought up in a gym, around fighters, coaches and that whole environment from the time I was in nappies. I also competed for my country for more years than I can count, so sport, discipline, competition and performance have shaped a huge part of who I am.
It’s not something I stepped into later in life, it’s something I’ve lived and breathed for as long as I can remember.
And now it’s come full circle, because my son has grown up exactly the same way, in the gym from nappies, surrounded by movement, boxing, community and everything that comes with it.
My professional background is rooted in psychology, psychotherapy and children and young people’s mental health, but it sits alongside a lifetime of lived experience within the gym, combat sport and competitive performance world. That combination is a huge part of why I’m so passionate about bridging sport, mental health, trauma-informed practice and community support properly.
So, in short…
CEO of BGWC.
Lead for Therapeutic & Trauma-Informed Pathways.
National Mental Health Lead for BoxWise.
NHS Pathway Lead.
Former international competitor.
And my favourite and most important job of all…
Koa’s Mam 🥰🤍
Next up.. head coach Carl 👀

4 years ago, we designed a programme built around disability, inclusion and fitness, with one simple belief: everyone deserves the opportunity to move, grow in confidence and feel like they belong. ❤️
4 years later, we now have over 207 children and young adults taking part in that programme.
And people like Nicky are exactly why we do it.
We’re breaking barriers every single day, challenging what people think disability and fitness should look like, and creating spaces where everyone gets the chance to thrive.
And we absolutely love it. ❤️🤍

A little glimpse into what’s coming at BGWC 🤍
The Wellness Wave Room will be a dedicated therapeutic space for our interventions, yoga, Pilates, stretching and mindful movement, alongside sound, light and frequency healing workshops designed to support regulation, relaxation and overall wellbeing.
Alongside it sits BGWC Wellness Cove, our family wellbeing space, created for children and families to play, connect, regulate and feel safe together.
And that free space you can see? That’s only 1/4 of the gym floor 👀
Every area of this building has been designed with purpose. We’re not simply creating rooms, we’re creating environments that support mental health, physical wellbeing, therapeutic work and connection.
Seeing it all finally take shape is something special 🥹✨
