🏏 WEEKEND ROUND-UP 🏏

A weekend of contrasting results for the Celts, but plenty of outstanding individual performances to celebrate.

🟑 1ST XI β€” WON BY 21 RUNS

A superb all-round performance saw the 1st XI defeat Drefach by 21 runs.

With regular opener Matthew Davies missing, captain Rhodri Thomas moved up the order and joined Sam Watkins at the crease. The pair put on 51 before the skipper was dismissed, three more quick wickets followed leaving Celtic in a tricky position.

Matthew Colston then joined Sam and helped steady the innings, playing a superb supporting role as Sam took control at the other end.

What followed was something special. Sam Watkins smashed an unbeaten 152, his highest ever score, in an outstanding innings in which he never gave the opposition a chance. One of the finest knocks seen at Garth Park for a long time. πŸ‘πŸ”₯

Celtic then took two early wickets with the ball through Adam and Luke, but Drefach fought back and looked to be heading towards the target. Sam Watkins then produced the crucial breakthrough, removing their key batsman, before the wickets came quickly and Celtic bowled Drefach out for 205 to secure the win.

🟑 2ND XI β€” LOST BY 9 WICKETS

There was another century to celebrate as Nicholas Evans registered his maiden century, scoring a superb 105.

It was the first century of Nicholas’ career β€” and the first century in the Spud household! πŸ’―πŸ‘

He was well supported by Tom Davies, who looked in excellent touch on his way to 52, as Celtic posted 228/9.

Unfortunately, the bowlers struggled to find the wickets needed and Aberystwyth chased down the target with seven overs to spare.

Two centuries, plenty of runs and some outstanding individual performances across both teams. πŸ‘

🏏 Match Report 🏏

What a game! The 1st XI came out on top in a thrilling three-wicket victory over Aberdare at Celtic Welfare Park, chasing down 254 with just five balls of the innings remaining.

Aberdare won the toss and elected to bat first, putting an impressive 253 on the board. The Celtic bowlers were made to work hard, but wickets were regularly picked up to keep the pressure on.

Luke Wilson was the standout performer with a superb 6-47 from 9.4 overs. Alastair Morris also impressed with 2-40 from 10 overs, while Rhodri Thomas and Adam Lawler both chipped in with a wicket each.

In reply, the Celts made a solid start, with Sam Watkins leading the charge. Sam produced an excellent 77 from 102 balls, striking 11 fours, before being dismissed with Celtic well placed.

Iwan Evans then added a valuable 26 from 48 balls, while Zach Thomas looked in fine form with a superb 53 from 76 balls, including five fours. Will Murray also made a useful 28 from 33 balls to keep the chase moving.

With the game heading towards a tense finish, Rhodri Thomas and Josh Turner held their nerve to see Celtic over the line as the Celts reached 254-7 from 49.1 overs.

A fantastic team effort to come away with the win in a game that went right down to the wire! πŸ‘πŸ”₯
